I use a mechanics stethoscope or long screwdriver to the ear. Lift all 4 wheels then start poking around and hear what's making noise.

Just an update. The problem was the propeller shaft aka front drive shaft u joint. Took it out changed transmission fluid and I am mobile.also front differential is shot.
