I replaced the 6 disc player in my 05 Expedition with a Navigation system I purchased online. I also purchased a set of dvds for this unit online. They are version 3v. Everything works with the exception the unit thinks it is still in Michigan where it came from. I cannot seem to update my location. Any suggestions? This has really been a learning experience and I found out that I know a hell of a lot less than I thought. Thanks

what brand do u have? there should be a way for you to change the setting but u can only do that in navigation mode...on my pioneer...when i select to input an address or location there is an icon with the states outlined...i hit that and there are options for regions that i can choose from for the address search...

so i live in virginia which region 9 and when i go to florida i put in the address and select region 10 or whatever the number is and it maps my directions from virginia to the address in the region i will be in with no problems

Do you have the GPS antenna installed? It needs to be able to see the satellites to get a position.

I guess what I am looking for is how to change where the unit thinks it is. I have tried re-setting home and that does not work but it is able to locate things around me such as airports, etc.

u cant change where it thinks it is...position is gained by bouncing signals from satelites...disconnect battery for a while and try it again...

Jeez, just got my wife an 06 with navi and find it overly complicated to use. I dont have to put discs in to use my $99 Insignia nav unit!

OK, I am at a dead end. Everything is working up to the point where the unit says 'please proceed'. When I start moving the screen does not change. It acts as though it does not recognize that the vehicle is under motion.I have even purchased and installed a new gps ant. Anybody know if this recognition comes from the gps or is it supposed to come from the speed signal input?

Bingo!

Success. It indeed needs the speed sensor signal wire hooked up. Works like a charm. This has been a good learning experience. I could have opted for a generic off-the-shelf brand and spent less. But this taught me a bunch and now turns out to be fun. Thanks for all the help.
