No issues at all. Runs like it did before the stumbling/poor shifting started a few weeks ago. Will see how long it lasts.

They said they reprogram the PCM as part of any coil/plug change. My guess is the computer tries to learn the condition with the misfire and when they correct the misfire the timing would be all out of sync, so reprogramming the PCM shortcuts the computer learning process.

I wonder if they had just reprogammed the PCM from the beginning if it would have sorted the issues.

Hmmm ok. See my expedition was at the stealership for a tuneup (minus coils because that isn't included in the price) an they did not reprogram mine. Guess I will take all the coils off on Thursday an take it to a parts shop and see if any of the coils are bad (I replaced them all a few months ago with those cheap replacement coils)

I'm still not convinced any of the coils were "bad" as I did enough swapping between working cylinders, and the problem kept staying isolated to cylinders 4 and 8 (4 primarily). Also, I replaced the spark plug in cylinder 4 two days ago (and they then went and did the same thing. It makes me think that cylinders 4 and 8 were allergic to what was installed. Makes me wonder if they had re-programmed with what was in there, if the problems would have been solved.

Thinking about the conversation I had with one of the service advisors, he said that misfires often cause problems in their paired cylinder - so 1 and 5, 2 and 6, 4 and 8. I'm wondering if the plug/coil in cylinder 8 was the real problem, causing a misfire sometimes in cylinder 8 but more in cylinder 4. As the plug they pulled from cylinder 4 was clean (since I had just installed it a day earlier) but the 1 from cylinder 8 was a bit dirtier.

I'm thinking I'm going to sell now and find something more fuel efficient.

I have a shudder at 30-40mph while maintaining speed at 1600idh rpm. Does not throw any codes and a code history only showed #6 missed 1 time. Also nothing changes if you tap the brakes while it is shuddering. Any ideas. Btw 64000 miles 5.4
