2006 problems: Rattles, No Reverse, No Start

My father bought a 2006 XLT Sport in June, and now it shows four problems.

1. Whenever starting from overnight parking, loud rattle sound comes from passenger side.

2. Sometimes when in Reverse, there is either no movement at first, or vehicle will move, then slow to stop despite stepping on the gas. This happens about twice per month.

3. Truck will start on morning, run for 1 second, then quit. Needs repeated restarts then starts fine.

4. Truck will fail to start - no clicks. Booster battery tried, no change. Shift from Park to Neutral in attempts to see if start-interlock problem. Eventually starts in Park.

I did Google searches, saw other posts elsewhere about all problems above, but no one had any useful replies.

Dealer has no clue yet, still investigating.

Does anyone have any clues for any of the issues?

leave it with the dealership and have the service manager use it far the week as his personal vehicle. Then tell him to fix everything.

I dont have a clue...but keep us posted on what happens.

Dealer replaced transmission actuator (black box at end of shift cable bolted to outside of tranny), but that was not it.

Today, the truck did not start at the dealer, and they traced it down to the starter relay.

It appears that the new starter relay is doing the trick...
