I would take your truck to several dealers. Tell them you are looking to establish a long-term relationship. I had paint issues. After working with 3 dealers it was apparent who would/would not help. My truck was not painted under the doors or hinges on the lift gate. One dealer told me they would check all the other trucks on the lot to see it that's 'normal'. I found a more reasonable dealer that knew how to work with Ford on paint issues.

I noticed the bubbling at the edge of the hood on my 2008 EL. I took it into the dealer and had the service manager look at it. I also mentioned that in researching the issue on the Interwebernets, that it is the result of poor prep. He noted that while my Expy has 61k miles and is out of warranty, he would plead my case to Ford and see what they offer. He called back and said I had two options - repaint it for $400 and hope that the problem does not come back, or replace the hood with one that was properly prepped at the factory. That option would run $2,400. He was waiting to hear back from FoMoCo on how much they would cover. 2 days later, he called back and said Ford would pay $2k of the hood replacement and that the dealership would split the balance with me since I was such a good customer (I've purchased 5 vehicles from them in the last 6 years). So, all in I am on the hook for $200 for a new hood. A little painful, but it is a solution that will work for years to come. Now if they can just figure out a way to swap out the 5.4 for a small diesel or an ecoboost, and give me decent tow mirrors, I would be a happy camper.:)

my roof has rusted through

I also have a 2007 EL eddie bauer, and the roof channels has rusted completely through on 4 of the channels causing water to leak in during car washes and rain, was told it was caused by rockes chipping the paint and leaving my car parked outside during bad weather by a ford dealership in dickenson texas....my warrenty is out (i drive my car alot w/ 78,000 mi) but i think and paint job should last longer then 4 years. This is my 6th ford vehicle, but when you spend 45,000.00 and it does not last, makes you think twice before buying ford the next time around.

I peruse this board on a pretty regular basis but oddly, had never checked in on this thread... get this one fellas.. I have a 2010 Expy Ltd, that is at my local dealer as we speak getting the hood and tailgate repainted. While in, I am having them fill the goofy-a** holes from the Expedition badge and leaving all of the badges off.

Here's my abbreviated story... I get my car washed at minimum 1/wk, detailed probably 1/quarter. A couple weeks ago, I noticed the bubbling on my tailgate, under door handle. Took it to the smaller of two dealerships near me to show him, telling him I knew it was a known issue with the last generation, but thought they had had it resolved. He came back at me with "yep, it's not prepped right from the factory, happens all the time, and proceeded to tell me the hood is usually first, and gets worst."

My car has just about 32k on her already (I too drive alot) and he was actually pushing me to get it in and fixed. The fact that some are out of the 3/36 warranty could be of concern, but someone above suggested, call FoMoCo, they WILL at minimum meet you 1/2 way or better to make you right. I know this too from first hand experience with 4 different Ford E350's and 250's with the lock tumblers in ALL of those vans, they were pretty darn good to me.

That wasn't exactly abbreviated, sorry. But good luck, be cool with them, yet firm, you will get it fixed.

My '08 Limited (built in 9/08) had its rear hatch re-painted last spring - at 35,000 miles. It had bubbling all around the license plate on the rear door. I have not had any problems with the hood, other than a few rock chips at the front edge I am watching intently. No problems with the roof either.

Actually, regarding the hood, I'm thinking of getting a "bug guard" for the front of my hood, even though the truck is all black. A bug deflector seemed to really help the rock chips on an Escape I used to have.

I have a 2011 EL ,was in for service yesterday having driver window motor replaced and maintenance ,it has 27000 mile on it has 36/36bumper to bumper and premium extended I pointed out a small bubble to the service rep and got what I thick was a side step answer,"those can be tricky to fix and cost about a 1000 you be better to put nail polish on it and just live with it" so I got online to see if there was a way to fix it and stumbled across this site seems I am not the only one with bubbles though it doesn't make me feel any better,I did like what I read about it should be covered under the bumper to bumper 36/36 warranty but I would thick the service rep would have known that and made a better recommendation than nail polish any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

Hi Rjwecker,

Send me a PM with your information and I'll look into some options to assist. Be sure to include your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name in your message.
