I had the tranny slipping in my 2003 Expy with 171K on the clock and considering that I had battled so many things from it raining as much inside the truck as outside, headgasket leak until I poured in a bottle of hoogie sauce, never did get both power mirrors to work on the SAME day....it just got to the point with it slipping that it wasn't salvageable.

I drove the new and used Tahoes. For example, a 2015 Tahoe with 31K on the clock will still run around 35-40 thousand dollars....way too much for a two year old truck. Used Expeditions are MUCH less expensive but then you never really know what you are getting.

I wasn't too excited about the new ones until I found that they come with the twin turbo 3.5 V6 that makes 365hp/420ftlb. The 5.4 just never impressed me with it's record of blown spark plug threads, broken headgaskets and low power. The new Tahoe made decent power but when I drove the Expedition, I was pretty surprised!

It was only a couple years ago that I had posted here about getting my replacement(the 2003 EB) Expedition. It was a nice, very clean truck but I was never completely happy with it. After it overheated while sitting in the field as we set up camp in Mid-Ohio at a vintage bike show after towing the trailer over the baby mountains of PA told me that it wasn't long for this world. A week or two ago the transmission began slipping. First with a shudder at hywy speeds instead of accelerating then it began slipping in the lower gears too.

Friday was a day off for me so I drove down to talk with a friend who owns a repair shop...his advice was to dump it. The thing is, it's been over 10 years since I had a car payment. I spent the rest of the day doing my homework, finding money rates and truck values. I also went down to a dealer and drove a used Tahoe with 18K on the clock....their starting price was 41K...wow. The going rate for that truck was really in the mid30's though.

Saturday, my baby and I went out shopping and drove used Tahoes with 44K & 32K but heck, they still get 30-40K for 2 year old trucks! We drove a new Tahoe too and went to a Nissan dealer and drove a new Armada(hated that truck). We went to one Ford dealer and drove the new Expeditions but they were taking out the door numbers in the 50's and just didn't seem to act interested(didn't cut their price by appreciable amounts) until someone there must have done his homework while we were out driving their truck. Then they completely changed their tune when we returned but I had already told Kerry that we were leaving after getting back. It was funny how they followed us out the door but my baby is so gracious with people. Then we went to a Carmax I got one the guy to run numbers on a 2014 with 7k on the clock but on a used truck the best money I found on Friday was 2.1% which isn't much but by the time you balance that against the delta of 0% over 3 or 4 yrs, there is a difference of close to 2 grand on 41K. So you have to figure that as well.
I was a little frustrated by then and suggested going home since it was 6PM but Kerry motivated me to going to another Ford dealer that I found on my phone about 20 miles away from our location. We drove another Expedition and hemmed and hawed until leaving with a fist full of numbers. Either a plain XLT with sunroof and climate cntrld seats (two opts I really like) or a nicer model. Once we got back into the car I did some serious number crunching with my phone going dead from use and realized that they had discounted the truck nearly 17K!....so I called the Manager on the phone and told him if he gave me 2k more, we'd turn around& he would sell a truck tonight...he tried to split it but I refused telling him how lucky he had been that Kerry had been present, because I had been so nice to him, but I'm a real ****** when alone....he hesitated then agreed....so we went back. It was by then, after 8PM. Of course the final numbers “forgot” part of that 2K but the Mgr Mark came to Chris’s office and added it back when I balked(I had told Kerry on the way back they would do that).
Long story short is I ended up getting a new toy for 0% money, out the door for only 4K more out the door than the '14 Tahoe would have been and it's worlds nicer than my old truck.... the twin turbo engine makes 375HP/470FTlb torque....or 365/420 depending where you read the specs. Either way, it moves nearly 3 tons of steel pretty quickly and much better than the old 5.4V8.

Kerry reminded me on the way home while we were talking car to car that they had agreed to give me 1500 for my old truck but then forgot it and just showed it as an additional discount so I still have the old truck...and it has new tires too! OOOOH! LOL

The timing couldn't have been better since I just got the renewal notice for my tags from the MVA so I'll drop them off tonight, then I'll dump the old truck somewhere.

The very best part is that I just refi'ed my house so my new total outlay is just a 170 more than it was in Aug! LMAO!!

I recently replaced my 2003 EB with a 2016 Limited. Your deal was a bit better than what I got in August, but I am still happy. Looks like Ford is trying to keep Expy sales from slipping in anticipation of the next gen 2018 model. If you don't have to have the latest version, this is a good time to buy.
And I really like the EcoBoost...

Thanks Brick, I hadn't known that the 4th gen was coming next year but it wouldn't have mattered to me because I never buy a vehicle for others to look at, just for me to drive<LOL>! It sounds like we were both in the same boat and there's no difference that I know of between our trucks, other than mine might be a little cleaner.....

Seth, to be clear, because I don't want to send anyone out with incorrect info because while we all like to think we got a "deal", something like this though is the second most expensive thing we buy in our lives other than our homes so the truth becomes very important to me.

I bought the Limited with:

1. Control Trac® Four-Wheel-Drive System

2. Option package 301a,-includes:

Power moonroof

Power-deployable running boards

Voice-Activated Navigation System with HD Radio™

3. The Blind Spot Information System

4. All-weather rubber first- and second-row floor mats in addition to the carpeted ones

5. Available Navigation with SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link® option

6. Platinum tri-metalic paint option.

7. Second-row flip-fold manual reclining bucket seats

8. 20" magnetic painted wheels

9. Probably stuff I'm forgetting but you experts can prob tell by looking?

I think the total options was $6,700?? The total sticker was 68,700 before a $615 "value discount" whatever that is<LMSO>!

At the end of the day, the only one that has to feel they got a decent price is me, or you if you are paying for it. So no one should ever feel good or bad about the price THEY paid because ON THAT DAY, IT WAS THE BEST PRICE THEY COULD GET and since they are paying for it, nothing else matters! Some people are better or worse at negotiating and more importantly some dealers have reasons or not to reduces their price more than another dealer.

OTD price was $53,890.00. That’s taxes, Registration, tags, freight, docs etc. I ordered ZERO adds from the finance guy, no extended warranties, no tire warranties, no paint warranties no warranties on warranties...you get the idea. Those are ALWAYS sky-high money makers so like Nancy Reagan used to say...."Just say no". Besides, you can always buy whatever they are trying to sell later, much cheaper(I saw a product in his office called "resistall" but he didn't try to sell me...saw it on Ebay for 25 bucks, all 5 bottles)My guess is that they would have charged hundreds!

I used Fords money @ 1.9% and got another $3,700 off the cost where as I wouldn't have gotten that if I had gone the 0% option I had. The delta on their 1.9 money was $2,200 so I got an added 1500 off the truck and can always pay it off even earlier to get out of the finance costs! At the very last minute, I gave them 5 grand to lower the amount financed.

Obviously, my credit is stellar so I could pick and choose how I paid for it. It's a good position to be in but I have been where a lot of others are too but my GF bought a new Rogue last year and got 0% money from Nissan and she's a teacher with good credit so they will bend if you don't have perfect credit but hold your ground while at the same time let them know that you are serious about buying a truck!

Congrats on the new nex Expy. I bought a 2017 a few months back and love it. Got a similar deal as you. Passed on Fords 0% and went with a 2.9% from another place and got even more money off. I went with the extended warranty though. Salesman was a good buddy of mine I've known since we were kids so I was able to get it half off normal cost. To much expensive stuff on these rides that can go wrong and I plan on keeping it a long time

Curious though where you read it has 375hp/470tq? I read every spec and review I could find before my purchase and never saw those figures anywhere not even on Fords website. I know that is a power option on the 2017 F150 but not for the Expeditions. They still don't even know what motor is going in the 2018 model although I suspect it will be the bigger 3.5L

Yes, 07, it's a pretty sweet truck! I found the larger HP/TQ numbers on one of the sites like Car & Driver....wasn't sure what model they were attributing it for but it was the rating for the 3.5 eco. I've also seen where they are doing all kinds of mods to this engine but heck, it's fine for me and besides, I've got a bike collection if I have the urge to go really fast.

I may end up with the Delta warranty but I'm in no rush. They cover the powertrain and the "hi-tech" stuff ....it was nice for you to have friends!, congrats!

Yeah those higher figures are only for the trucks. Why they didn't offer that upgrade in the 17 Expeditions I don't know. Since a complete redesign is coming in 2018 my guess is the Expy will then get the new 3.5L that's in the F150's now. I do a lot of towing with mine so Im looking for ways to gain a little more hp/tq here and there. Those higher numbers would have been nice.

The actual power output doesn't really matter to me. Once a year I tow a motorcycle trailer but I just like having a large truck around in case I need to pick up larger stuff and I don't like driving pickups. Either way, this new engine is worlds better than my old 5.4's.

I know for you guys who tow a lot, it's critical but my car only seats two so I needed something with more seating. I've driven Expy's so long that I don't even notice the size.

There are a couple of companies that offer or soon will offer different maps that are producing in the range of 70 more HP but I don't need it....others might but from what I've read only Livernois would see my $$ if I was in the market for HP. They are claiming +84hp and 84tq on '15/'16's. Still developing the map for the '17's from what I hear.

belated congrats...we picked up ours in may
a few things that will grow on you
EL, ride is great, Wholly cow the power is super, even with 3.73 rear end in ours we get 17 plus mpg at real world speeds of 75-80
even with all seven seats filled.....it is comfy
and POWER again is superb, she will flat scoot to 0- 60. we had a 2013 f150 with the same engine, but this version is smoother and packs a bag of oomph
my only complaint is the nav system s slow to update turns, but only in houston and san antonio?????

I've had a couple ecoboost Expy's as rentals and I can confirm, the power is amazing compared to the 5.4. It caught me off guard to have that much power on tap and to build speed so quickly for such a large vehicle. That took some getting used to. It was neat to have the direct comparison between the 3.5TT and my "old-skool" 5.4.

The (addictive) 3.5TT power and better brakes almost make it worth the price of admission for a new one!

[QUOTE="GaryH2, It caught me off guard to have that much power on tap and to build speed so quickly ![/QUOTE]

I've grown up and drive my truck like I have some sense so while I have run it a bit hard a couple times, it's not how I drive on a daily basis...besides, when I regress and want to go fast, I can always take out one of my bikes or my car but yesterday going home, someone stopped for someone in front of them turning left and there were two lanes to our right and zero traffic. The car in front of me had been driving 30 on a 50mph road so I took the opportunity to get out in front of them. I didn't really mean to get THAT close to the floor with the gas pedal but holy crap....you're right, when you aren't ready for it, it explodes! I'll be a bit more respectful of that in the future. LMAO!

people are linking here, so for anybody that wanders thru:

Just fyi: the original price they quoted OP is pure opportunistic and undiluted equine guano.

Screenshot_2017-02-19-15-48-18.png

Please don't pay average Lincoln version money for super-special-just-for-you "deals" on the Ford version.

Cuz no its not "$17k off". It's not anything off

Real AVERAGEish Expy Limited price

Screenshot_2017-02-19-15-56-29.png
PS yes that IS average-ish, even my *mom* can and has out-haggled truecar prices.... and she's whimsical, got no attention span, no head for numbers whatsoever, and her main car shopping criterion is LITERALLY "I only want a cute.red.car" ---- to the point where she'll walk away from a better equipped trim of the same model for $10k less, cuz if it ain't red it don't mean nothin...

Anything my momma can do, any of you can do better. I guarantee it.

Why so much concern for the price we paid for our trucks? Even in the 2018 thread you're dogging the 17 model and saying its over priced blah blah blah. Who cares, I know I don't and neither should you. We like our 17's and we think we got good deals. Go worry about your own finances and stop worrying about ours

I love stupid people.

They always reveal themselves....

They don’t even know they are stupid.

Don't let it bother you 07.....most of us got smarter by our 30's......

But some didn't.....
