Hi All,

My rear camera started showing the blue screen and "camera not available" message. I took it to the dealer and they said the camera needed to be replaced, but they wanted more than $500 and I decided to do it myself. I replaced the camera and it works fine. Here's the situation:

1 - I now have the dynamic reversing guidelines. It never did until the camera was replaced, and I don't have the option to turn them off on the Sync menu. I think it's Settings | Vehicle | Camera then the option.
2 - The guidelines are badly misaligned right after starting the vehicle. They are all the way to one side. However, it seems that it fixes itself after driving a few miles, but then is misaligned again after turning it off.

I did do the camera recalibration using FORScan Lite on my iPhone but that didn't work. I've also disconnected the battery and let it set with the door open for 15 minutes. Since then I've done a lot of reading about the Steering Angle Sensor possibly being used to control the lines. I've tried the "turn the wheel right until it locks, then left until it locks three times then turn the vehicle off" method to try to recalibrate that sensor but I'm doubting it should work at all.

I'd like to either aligned the guilides correctly or just turn them off altogether. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Help! Thanks in advance!

Hello
My Expedition camera is doing the same thing after I changed it. Did you steering lines ever get adjusted and stay after driving a while?

The lines do align correctly after driving for a while. However, they are misaligned again after the car is shut off. I did read on another forum to try this:

1- Completely turn off the ignition.
2 - Disconnect the camera.
3 - Turn the car on.
4 - Put the car in reverse to ensure the system recognizes there is no camera. (I’ll probably drive it around a bit)
5 - Ensure the front wheels are straight.
6 - Turn the car off.
7 - Reinstall the camera.
8 - Say a prayer :)
9 - Turn the car on and see if the lines are straight.

I did try using FORScan from my laptop. I found several settings I wanted to change to see if it would make a difference, but the changes wouldn’t save. I suspect because the vehicle should not have Rear Camera Active Guidelines in the first place.

If I have time this weekend, I’ll try the procedure above and will post the results.

Is there a plug to disconnect the camera besides the plug at the camera?
I am not anxious disassemble the tailgate again!

Ok. I took a different route. I had purchased a real cheap GreenYi camera from Amazon, but the last thing I wanted to do was keep having the issue. A lot of people have posted success using the more expensive camera from Master Tailgaters (link below), so I bought it. I changed it this morning and that did the trick. Better resolution, no dynamic guidelines, etc. It must have been something in the hardware although that would be pretty weird given that it's supposed to be just a camera and all the smarts are in the module. Live and learn I guess. It still saved me about $500 bucks from the dealer estimate.
