Want to toss this out to the crowd before i replace the starter. Its got 176k and is the original starter, to my knowledge at least since i got at 84k.

Cars been sitting for few weeks, and since the battery was 4 years old i replaced it. Battery has tight and clean terminals.

Prior to this, I noticed sometimes I had to push the start button more than once to get it to start. I just figured i short stroked it, but now I get nothing but a "click". All dash lights and power otherwise appear normal.

Does this sound more like a bad push to start button?

Did you install a quality battery that meets your vehicle requirements?
Batteries are one the few things that you get what you pay for. Failure to crank can be many things. I doubt that the button is the problem.

It sounds like the button or the starter solenoid. It's pretty easy to check the starter.

My engine shut off while driving with my 2015. I pulled on the side, and I got the same symptom as you described. the starter button clicked, the dash went on as usual, but no crank. I had my car towed and check calmly what would have caused the issue. Well, there is a 5A fuse which protects the PCM. (see pic below)

As I had major work done on the car (replacing camshaft, oil pump etc), i had to disconnect and reconnect the battery. I never found WHY the damn fuse blew, but I made sure all the battery connectors were tightened properly... I have been driving with the fear it would happen again, but so far nothing after 4K miles...

this is a 1 minute check and worth making you aware of (it cost me one fuse and one tow truck). since then I have a few spare mini fuses in my glove box. :)

Good luck!

I would start with the starter relay. Had the same problem with my wife's Mustang. Looked at the manual and found out what relay number it was and swapped it with the wiper relay.

You should always carry fuses and relays plus the manual, so you know where they go.

After checking all the fuses/relays i replaced the starter [and btw i love how easy it is on these models given that some cars its a nightmare job] and it worked.
