We were contemplating getting a Nikon d850, torn on the Z6. It's just a light hobby, but we have a D7000 right now and mostly full frame lenses, so just the body is the expense.
When it comes to stuff like this I usually go big and then ride it as long as I can. As mentioned above, I’m still shooting a 15 year old body but it’s getting time to move up. When I bought it it was out of my price range but I justified it based on longevity of use. I couldn’t afford full frame at the time so I got the next best thing, then spend the next 15 years pumping my camera budget on glass, that’s where I’ve found the biggest bang for the buck.

This is great advice. Glass holds value and doesn't change much, bodies come and go.

I still have my trusty 5DII as well. I just couldn't part ways, too much history. I ended up jumping ship though and going with Sony... I will probably have my A7RII for quite some time. The IBIS and mirrorless is a game changer though. Especially if you have a bunch of old lenses laying around.

Have you dabbled in composites much yet? Did you go down the side of the truck as well or just behind it? Light painting can be really fun and a great way to learn compositing (layering multiple images together and using the best parts of each).

We will forgive you for being a Nikon shooter... :happy160: If you are at all concerned about future proofing the Z6 is a solid camera and the mount should be around for quite some time. The fact that they just released a firmware update allowing it to be the first dslr/mirrorless with 4k Raw Video (with external recorder) capability is something too. It shows Nikon really believes in their new system and would probably be where I put my money. Once you get used to a digital viewfinder you will never go back...

Lately I have upped my game, a bit...

I have a d7100, d750 and a d850...I dont regret moving to FX full frame...as I move up the previous model becomes my 2nd shooter/back up...

late last year - we bought my wife a z7 - great camera, I prefer the larger DSLR.

if you need the FPS go w/ the lower resolution z6, otherwise go w/ the z7.
if you like the larger dslrs and you want the best resolution Nikon offers go w/ the d850...although the d750 is a great camera.

I ran down the sides as well, but they didn’t really capture as well as the back did.

I’m starting to dabble in layering. It’s relatively “easy” to learn, but definitely needs time to master. I attached my first attempt at it. Hard to truly cut out what you want when I’m just using a mouse pad lol

couldn't agree more...put the money in the best glass...f/2.8s or better (primes)...youll never regret it!
I like to say no one ever says...I which I had bought f/5.6 over an f/2.8 (zoom)!

the bodies will come and go - but you can always take the better lens' to the next body

Good start!
Were you shooting at F4? Might need to try a brighter light or if you are shooting to composite then focus the light on one area per shot. The more time you spend the brighter it gets. What are you using to edit? If there is a way to adjust the opacity of the top layer so you can see under it, that can help immensely as you remove the too layer. If you are using Photoshop layer masks are your friend!

I wanted to see what the Navi would look like with my old raptor wheels and used that exact method.

They have a free trial and it is $9.99/mo for Photoshop and Lightroom... Also comes with 20gig storage and mobile versions of each. One reason I like it is you don't have a contract so you can cancel at any time. Better to try it for a couple months for $10 than buy it for $1,200... If you really enjoy shooting I'd say a worthy investment, but you do have to want to learn it.

It doesn't do layering but my favorite free photo app is Snapseed. Have you tried it? Extremely powerful editor and it's free. You can even do layer masks for each edit you make. I also much prefer the interface to the Adobe stuff. You can get quite fast with it...

I know this has gone off in the weeds to cameras, but...I’m not a camera guy, just like to take good pictures when I need to, and that’s the best advice I’ve been given. Lenses: get the best you can afford.

Damn, that is a cool result. I have also always been interested in learning more about photography in general. I agree it’s all about the lenses. I got started with Nikon’s so will probably stick with that setup, even though my Nikon is so old that I could justify making a switch to Canon or another brand. I’ve always liked Nikon though.

It was pretty simple. I purchased a Ford T Harness off Amazon and wired the Key amp to it as per the directions. There are plenty of YouTube videos to show how to open up the dash if you search using F150. I zip tied the amp behind the sync screen. You will see three studs used for some optional equipment that I don’t have, so it was a perfect spot for the amp. Otherwise, I grounded it to one of the studs and ran a 12ga power wire to the passenger floor fuse panel. I used a micro add a circuit to the 20a factory Amp circuit(no factory amp in my truck). The final step is to connect the microphone and run the tune. Oddly enough, I like the tune using the Pink Noise off YouTube better then the lab quality Pink Noise off the Kicker website. The cool thing is you can click the button on the mic to revert back to the factory sound. You will be amazed by the difference.
Now, if I can just add a subwoofer without taking up cargo space, I’d be all set.
Where would you install the sub?

The Canon vs Nikon vs those other pretend makes is no different than Ford vs Chevy...

Shoot with your Nikon and enjoy.

Now that the new 2018+ trucks are rolling in...I'm starting this thread so that we can all get our daily eye candy dose. :)

Start posting some pics...Exterior, Interior, everything.... It be nice to see your new Expedition/Navigator in all the wonderful colors that Ford makes. Also, the same truck under different lighting/weather conditions is awesome too! It's shady...post a pic, the color is sparkling under the sun...post a pic, it rained today...post a pic! You get it.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have one of these new trucks, I expect a new pic from you at least weekly, if not daily!

Let's see those new trucks!!!

GTNator, let’s see a pic of yours maybe to get back on track?
