Not knocking you, but to each, his own. One of the things I'm happiest about on our current '20 Expy after trading our '15 Explorer Limited is the return to real controls. A big screen looks nice, but is not as functional as real controls that you can reach down and feel/work while driving. An example is big temperature changes in the HVAC. In the Expy we just reach down and do, but in the Explorer, we had to press for each function and each digit change. I was really drawn to the Explorer's high tech "control center" screen when we bought the Explorer, that is until anytime I wanted to do something... change a temperature, change a radio station, change the AC settings in the rear, etc, etc. Again, not knocking anyone who likes the screens, but if I happen to have a screen, please keep the old fashioned knobs and push buttons too.

The top of the dash hasnt even been fitted yet, so we dnt kno what fords gonna do yet. As far as screen utilization, the mach e is now makin press rounds so ill wait to see how ppl like the large screen. I did like how easy everything was to wrk in the expy as compared to the nav because of the buttons, but if done right, it could wrk. I myself am excited, but more want better driving characteristics than anything else.

While I may agree with you - about physical buttons - the overall movement in the industry is towards all touch-screen. Like it or not, it's where every car is headed. The Mach-E is one of the first Fords to offer it, Tesla has had it for a while, and the new Escalade has a display that stretches across the whole dash.

Personally, if I have a choice to buy a truck with tomorrow's tech vs. yesterday's, I'll opt for the bigger screen. I'm sure Ford won't roll out something that's half-baked. Sync 4 will have much faster processing, and the big display will only benefit with the camera views. I find the present screen grossly undersized.

The issue isn’t really with lack of buttons (only one person here opined on that). The issue is integration and balance. The escalade got it right. Tahoe got it wrong. Slapping a giant screen on a dash that was designed for tactile knobs and buttons is just lazy and looks bad. Let’s hope they recognize that and clean up that dash.

So funny that the size of the screen makes for a good car these days.

...

And I fully agree with you there as well, but it still scares me to no end (in addition to "ease" of operation while underway). Most of the living comfort controls in our Class A motorhome are controlled by a networked touch screen device about mid-way back. If that "screen" (Vegatouch) had an unrecoverable crash, we would lose a great deal of our creature comforts... air/heat controls, most lighting control, and some other creature comforts. It definitely would be enough of a loss to require immediate service. Bringing it back to the Expy and topic, I wonder how many of the push buttons on that display will have physical counterparts? That could make the difference between getting an unrecoverable "malfunction" repaired when time allows, or having to get it done right away.

How did the escalade do it right, their screen is tact on too. I guarantee if the screen wasn't an old curved setup with as much customization as it does(uses the cur system in the sedans), ppl wouldnt feel the same about it.

Ford pushed the tablet dash in Explorer models and it comes to Exp in higher trims. It looks terrible in my opinion.

From what I see here, appears to be a Frankenstein version of the MY Ford Touch center stack and on which making routine adjustments to air distribution or blower motor speed may still require touching the screen or the controls below it. Either necessitates taking your eyes off the road. I have only seen early spy pictures of the 2021 F-150 dash, and in the pictures it looks like the two-button blower speed adjustment buttons were replaced by what appeared to be a wide toggle lever...something that could be adjusted by touch w/o actually looking at it. If so, it makes a lot of sense to me. But, what would make even more sense would be having the ability to adjust blower speed using voice commands.

EXACTLY. Our 2014 Flex had that same ****** screen and EVERYTHING was on that screen. It literally took me 10X as long to adjust the heat and such. I actually sold it because I couldn't stand that screen. If my Expedition didn't have the controls on the bottom, I would be driving something else.

You serious Clark? The entire dash was built around it and integrated into it. The fact that it’s curved is part of why it doesn’t look awful like the expys does.

The 22 expy looks like they literally took a hot glue gun and jammed an android tablet to the dash.

Bought the 2919 Expedition after test driving the 2020 Explorer ST. Among other things it has a planted screen that looks like a big phablet vs. being integrated into the dash.

Well the lg touchscreen and interface is starting to look like a critical darling for the mach e( which in itself is very positively recieved so far), so atleast its a functional screen.
