Hello,
Newbie and not a car person, so please be kind :).

I purchased my first Ford in Oct 2023. It was a 2023 Ford Expedition LTD with stealth package and < 150 miles. 9 days after purchasing, I started receiving the following message on my dashboard:

“Check electronic limited slip differential”.

It took the dealership a few weeks and a couple attempts to correct. First they sent me home saying they couldn’t reproduce the message (although I informed them numerous times that it happens randomly and the messages does not stay displayed when restated). After being told there’s nothing they could do without the error message, I started driving away and sure as heck the message appeared not even .5 a mile away so I turned around and brought it right back. They ended up saying I needed a new sensor. Fast forward, with new sensor installed—- and message returned. Took the suv right back to dealership. Dealership kept for almost a week and determined modules needed updates. Great, all is good.

Almost exactly a year later and I receive the same message. Took it back to dealership. Thankfully they got me in quickly and updated multiple modules. They told me about a TSB this time (where a good search led me here).

The dealership has been helpful and the employees are great. Random things happen in the car (randomly no sound from speakers — not sure if this is related to CarPlay/ iOS, but rebooting phone usually corrects the issue. I’ll have to check the FM radio next time. About two months ago, the car alarm randomly started by itself twice — within days a part. Sometimes my side mirrors do not open. Once my side of front seat was blowing warm air with lowest ac setting on and all other sections of car was blowing cool air - turned car off and back on with no continued issues. Noisy breaks. Wireless charger is useless… etc). All of which I assumed would eventually get corrected with updates and/or not a big deal- technology can be glitchy, yada yada yada. But now I am getting nervous. Having to update a large number of modules twice within the first year of owning — is this typical? The first time the message appeared, there was not a TSB out yet— if I was not under warranty, would I have had to pay out of pocket? I haven’t had a new car since 2014 and a lot has changed since then- loads of new technology and features, which obviously leaves room for more issues down the road. Is this common occurrences with new vehicles and am I worrying for no reason? Or did I get a dang lemon? Since there was eventually a TSB put out covering a number of issues we’ve had, I assume it’s not a lemon — but I also assume it takes a larger number of complaints before TSBs are issued… what happens in the meantime when warranty is up? Do extended warranties cover the same?

Quickly review your state’s vehicle lemon law on line. Most have a time limit to file a lawsuit or claim regarding lemon law defects - 12 or 18 months from date of purchase for a new vehicle. Time is of the essence if you wish to proceed with a lemon law action.

My '23 limited stealth has been perfect so far with 15k miles. The '23s should have most of the earlier problems worked out, but obviously not all. Consult your lemon laws and find a lawyer to back you up. Keep all documentation. And good luck.

We just bought a 2021 Expedition with 26K on it an FX4. We randomly get the “check limited slip differential” error code. We’ve had the car for only 3 weeks & we haven’t even made a payment. We bought it at a Ford dealership about an hour away but took it in near the house to get looked at-a Ford dealership. Same thing they couldn’t reproduce the code and it doesn’t save. I wasn’t happy they changed my wife almost 200 to not know anything. Do you remember the sensor/code so I can have mine fixed. My wife called the place we bought it they haven’t called us back yet.

It sounds like it may have been wet.

The only flash my SPP needed was for the gas gauge. Sometimes it didn’t show that the gas tank was full after gassing the truck up. Rather the tank volume started to creep up ever so slowly until it was full again. Other than that my moon roof had wind noise so I got that realigned at the dealer.
The only thing I did notice that some settings in the instrument cluster do get reset after a flash / update. The sync 4A may be set to auto update, but you can disable that.
I’ve got the eLSD too, so far so good, never had any problem with it.

Eric, Take pictures of the dash when it comes up. No way should a dealer charge $200 on a vehicle under warranty. When you take a picture in ask them for the $200 back.

They told us it was NOT under warranty and I had telephone contact with them and the dealer claimed it could be an electrical issue. I argued it was a power train issue. Crock of nonsense

@ericinwisconsin make sure you have Ford Service connected. While they told me originally they couldn’t reproduce the error and there was nothing they could do, I later learned the errors were sent to them electronically via the app and they had a log of it the entire time. If it continues, I would reach out to ford about the buyback. Not sure exactly how that works. I didn’t learn of it until after I had already reached out to lawyer regarding lemon law.

I am not familiar with forums and just now logging back into check responses. Still having issues. They said my vehicle was corrected last night, except they couldn’t reproduce the gear slipping we’ve been experiencing. We shall see. I did end up reaching out to a lawyer and hope to move forward. I am concerned about the safety of this vehicle with so many issues on a brand new car.

Mien did the same thing intermittantly. Dealership determined it was the locker pin sticking. Parts on order.

What drive mode are you driving in? Several of the modes "tighten up" the ELSD and will cause overheating after many (~20) miles at freeway speeds or frequent pavement turns.
