Hey Everyone, long time listener, first time caller.

For context, I would like to start that I am an Idiot, and like to wrench on cars.

So.... I picked myself up a 2023 XLT Max as a rig to haul my 3 little pigs in.
Very happy overall up until the headlamp was damaged.

Naive me, figured, you've worked on cars! youve replaced headlamps before, this will be a no problem walk in the park.

The computer that came with light was water damaged, so had to replace it as well.

Replaced a with a used light, and balast/headlight computer from fleebay.
Learned quickly that there are like a million different sub part numbers for both.

After a few attempts, purchased an identical Computer, matching part number, same model car as a donor.

The result,
I have half of dozen computers laying in my garage, and the headlight that was damaged is stuck in high beam mode. (feel like an ******* driving it, blinding oncoming traffic. (I already am an *******, so this just makes it obvious))
If I switch the computers around left to right, which ever side the factory computer goes to, functioning as normal. Meaning, the headlamp it self is in good working order, its the LED balast computer.

My question, hopefully to a Ford tech wizard on here,
What am I doing wrong?
(Other than not being a baller and taking it into service and paying a gazillion dollars for something I am (doubtfully) capable of doing.)

Do I need to program a computer so it beep boops with the ECM/BCM?

Do I have the computer for the wrong model? (already dont that, junkyard said it was for an expedition, yet it was for an explorer)

Any help would be appreciated.
Or Cold beer would do fine as well.
PM for PO box.

Welcome George. I don't know the answer but I'm interested in hearing it. Perhaps the module has to be programmed through Forscan or the dealer's software.
