Hi guys,

Something that's started happening on cold mornings/evenings. When first turned on, and for a couple of minutes the engine will whistle. It comes and goes a little, and only lasts while idleing when the engine is still cold. Basically, the below-freezing mornings. As soon as I drive it, it stops, and it only lasts a couple on minutes anyway.

Is this a sign of impending doom, or just an engine with 120K on it?

I've attached a zip of a .mov of the sound, if that helps.

Thanks,

Alex

My explorer did that, although I never figured out what accessoy it was, the ac compressor, power steering pump, etc. I am fairly sure it was the alternator, Must likely cause is one of the idler pullies, I changed both of mine on that truck and it would never go away. Make sure to look at the serpentine belt and see if it is shiney, also look at your pullies, either could be glazed, the pullies can be scuffed up with some light sand paper, and you could just replace the serpentine belt, DON'T use soap or anti squeak belt dressing, it is NOT intended for serpentine belts.
