5th wheel protection

i'm getting a 5th rim and plan on storing it underneath where the spare is...is there anything on the market that i can wrap it up in to prevent rock damage on the chrome finish? i looked at tire rack wheel cover but it seems as if they only go up to 22's...i'm pushing 24's..

hang it with the chrome up and put an old towel or something on top of it to prevent it from scratching on the floor.

put a wheel cover over it like they put on the open spares, like a jeep or sumthing. there pretty ware resistant and i wouldnt think they cost very much

thats true. didnt think of that. just you have to cut a hole in the center of it.

look for a place that does canvas work (like for a boat) and have them make a cover for it and they could put the holes needed in it and reinforce the holes and maybe snaps around it so you could easily remove cover.... idk just an idea

i havent found any that will cover 24 inch rims...i've only seen up to 22's...per tirerack.com

mabey a marine apolstery shop. i know my dad had a big bra made to cover the front of his boat while in tow.

Make sure your looking up overall wheel diameter I'm sure Jeep 17's with a beefy tire are pretty close to 24's with lo pro's

i was going to get a cheap-o brand 24 or a 22 with a beefier tire to use as a spare but im thinking of getting a stronger spare mount first, dont want to drop my new heavier spare on the freeway cant imagine that it would be fun. and no more carrying 2 sets of lug nuts and 2 lug wrenches.

I would worry about the gears inside the crank stripping. I have seen many fords with this problem and it either leads to dropping the rim on the road, or you canot get the cable retracted back in to the winch. Maybe try to find a winch assembly off of a diesel excursion or f-350, since they are made to hold larger and heavier wheel/tire combos.

^ exactly what i was thinking it already feels kind of shady lowering the stock spare on that cable. Im thinking the whole assembly would need to be swapped out with an f350. Ill have to look up the parts and compare the differences
