There are a few older threads about this, but nothing within the last 6 months or so, so I will start a new one.

2023 Limited with the 15" screen, I am looking for a way to turn off the lane centering entirely (both alert and assist) while using the ACC. I like having the truck manage speed and distance from the vehicle I am following, and it seems to do that very well especially for cruising on interstates when set to maximum distance. However, the stick shaker is extremely irritating and when it is raining the assist is very hard to tell the difference between the car centering me in the lane and the car hydroplaning, so I do not want that at all - especially as long as I am running the factory Grabber sliders. Has anyone found a way to turn the alert/assist both off?

More information - I do use this while towing, and I think all the small corrections assist applies becomes dangerous, - especially when it is windy or I am passing trucks with 7000 pounds behind the Expy. And the constant shake-shake-shake-pause-repeat is too much to deal with after a few hours. I am almost ready to open the steering wheel and cut the offset weight out of the shaker...

My 2023 XLT (smaller screen) has a button on the left spoke of the steering wheel (middle button on the right) that turns off the lane centering. The adaptive cruise is controlled separately.

To change the Alert vs Aid settings:
Features
Driver assistance
Lane keeping system
Mode

To turn it on and off use this button like Samantha said:

OK so that’s embarrassing. 8000 miles and I never found that.

Thanks Samantha.

Yes the button on the wheel will either "Enable Vibration or Centering" depending on the settings for Assist and then when in Cruise the Cruise settings.
Thought it was neat a first but its silly and seems to favor one side or the other depending on the road lines.

I am all for Auto Brake (kid runs out in the street) and those safety features, but when it comes to self driving and lane centering are we that far gone as humans where the task of driving a car is too much? Some cases where a trailer and high wind but on a regular basis?

You almost don’t have a choice with the 15.5” screen. Changing the fan on hvac requires a few clicks and a steady hand.

My normal long-distance highway driving is with adaptive cruise on, but WITHOUT lane centering on. The only time I use lane centering is if I’m eating, so I only have to touch the wheel once every 20-30 seconds. But as soon as I’m done I turn it back off.

On our first trip, we used the lane centering a LOT and it made my wife sick. We realized the wheel just slightly (almost unnoticeable to the driver) swerves back and forth within the lane, like a little kid pretending to drive and moving the wheel back and forth constantly. Even though the back and forth wobble was VERY slight, it felt extreme to my wife in the passenger seat who is prone to motion sickness. At first we just thought the Expy suspension swayed, but once we realized it was the lane-centering making her nauseous, I stopped using it and she’s been fine ever since as long as it’s off.

Has anyone else noticed this issue while using the lane centering with adaptive cruise? And for anyone with Blue Cruise, does it do the same thing while auto-piloting?

It's exactly the same, except I don't have to apply torque to the steering wheel every 20 seconds. I'll say, though, that it doesn't seem to bother anyone in my immediate family.

I have only experienced this a few times but 99% of the time it's smooth. Might need to have the dealership recalibrate the cameras, etc.

Which button is it? The button I have only turns on/off adaptive cruise completely (see attachement). Or does that toggle all the features only when the cruise is already on? I have to turn off lane centering in the settings screen.

I agree 100%. I have a '21 Limited and the centering correction makes for a uncomfortable ride. I think it's worse for the passengers as the driver gets is more cognizant of the correction. My passengers have complained and at times they think I'm falling asleep at the wheel! I use it only if I'm distracted by drinking or eating.

When I searched for a used Expedition a few years ago, one of my requirements was ACC (among others). Even though I use the ACC constantly, anything to do with lane centering is turned off. When I am on the interstate I use too much of the road to have the truck remind me I am crossing over the lines. I can deal with that.

That being said I have turned on the self driving feature in my Hyundai Santa Fe from time to time for the hell of it.

I personally don't have a problem with self driving vehicles because many humans have crossed the line into Idiocracy. My Uncle, Dad and youngest brother were all killed (separate accidents) because the other driver couldn't manage to stay in their assigned lane.

Weirdly, shortly after responding to this post, I was driving on the interstate and my Expedition started fighting me when I wasn't exactly staying in the lane.
I couldn't understand it because I always had it turned off. I pulled over and accessed the settings but could only partially turn it off (alert only).

I reread this post that reminded me about the button to control the system. After looking around on the steering wheel and dash ,I finally found it by the Auto (off/on) button. It was partially behind my Off Roam cell phone holder. I always press the Auto Off button after starting the truck and I must've accidentally turned on the Lane Changing system when pressing the Auto button. Now I once again have a truck that allows me to straighten out curves without getting told not to.

Just strange it happened within days of reading this.

BTW sorry for being somewhat morbid on my last post, one of the anniversaries was coming up.

Sorry for your loss. That does sound terrible.
The lane centering is barely useful if any to me. you cannot rely on it unless you have all basically new roads.
Better to simply learn how to drive and stay centered. Though it may save some crashes due to keeping someone in the lane.

My 2013 Hyundai Genesis 5.0rspec has the adaptive cruse control also and it is nice. Though I turn it off 90% of the time.

I am sure the newer generation will be using auto “stuff” more and more.

so everyone be careful!

I have to agree that the lane centering is not quite there yet for Ford - the vehicle does not adequately inderstand what a lane looks like all the time. I especially hate it trying to take every off ramp in the interstate if you are in the right lane as it follows the right paint stripe and ignores the left one. So until they figure that out I will be my own lane keeper.

Thanks for the discussion everyone! And Lou - sorry to hear the family accident record. I got hit by a drunk driver that ran a red light (country roads at 55 mph) 20 years ago with the whole family in the car. Lucky we all had seat belts on and all lived, but I was just a few feet from not making it as my entire left front fender to the car centerline was obliterated by his RAM truck. He was on his way home from his 33rd birthday party...

I know this post is a bit out of date but I recently had a scare. At highway speeds it feels like the truck is trying the steer off the road (left and right) and I have to fight it. I don't use the lane centering or any of the the auto safety features. First thing I checked was the vehicle settings, I see that I can't turn off the forward collision alert anymore. I wonder what else has been changed. Anyone know the details of the recent steering update?
