I have a problem with my 2008 XLT where the rear air only blows warm. I was reading the workshop manual, and it gives a procedure for self-adjusting the HVAC blend door actuators. I don't have the book in front of me, but it essentially involves disconnecting the HVAC module for at least one minute and then reconnecting and turning the key on. It says the blend door actuators will cycle and self-adjust.

Has anyone tried this? Can anyone confirm the location of the HVAC module?

Make sure you check the orface tube block in the back for the rear A/C small line should be hot and the bigger line should be cold if the tube is working

Is there a separate system for the rear air? I was thinking it was just air diverted from the front system.

Actually the remedy is to replace both of the blend door actuators modules. When we first bought our 07 Navigator Elite we had the same exact problem with the rear air. The only way I was able to come to the correct conclusion was I heard a slight clicking when I would try to change the air to cold in the rear. In order to change you need to remove the cup holder for the upper module. Now the lower one on the side that is the real treat. The manual says to remove the entire cover, but I removed the seat belt bolts and then gently pulled it back from the window clips. Then I removed the long tray and wiggled my hand down in with a ratcheting 8MM ( I think) box end. Very tight fit, gained a few more battle scars, and was around $100 to replace both modules. Problem solved.

Blend Door Actuator Module # 1L2H-19E616-BB, I hope this helps.

Thanks, might you have any photos of what you did? I assume the area you're talking about is beneath the passenger side rear window, (where the vents are in the interior panel) and not beneath the dashboard?

I bought this vehicle about a month ago, and have been discovering various quirks:

1. TPMS fault - I am pretty sure this is the wheel sensors themselves, not a big deal.

2. No interior "demand" lights. Found wire to passenger visor vanity light pinched between frame and visor mount. Simple 10-minute repair.

3. The problem addressed in this thread, no cold air from rear HVAC system.

4. Odd, intermittent noise when accelerating, sort of a whine. It changes pitch as the transmission shifts, which is what I originally thought the problem to be. Further messing with it shows it only occurs when a/c is on. I can turn off the a/c and the noise disappears.

5. I have had my a/c start blowing warm air out of the dash vents suddenly. I turn off the a/c then back on and all is well again. I'm thinking that may be a blend door issue under the dash.

6. Rear HVAC controls non functioning. The rear air controls work from the dash, but not from the rear of the console.

I live in Phoenix, so good, dependable a/c is very important. It's about 105° outside right now. I do like the truck though, I bought it to replace my 1991 Bronco and really enjoy the comfort and luxury.

Funny you should be in the Phoenix area, that is where I found my 07 Navigator earlier this year. I never did take photos which is my bad, but you're correct that they are located under the passenger rear window. If you give a slight tug on the cup holder and the long tray on top of that trim it will open up and you'll see the actuators. The whining sound may actually be a bad alternator, compressor, or just low on the R134 chiller. My 1999 Expy would whine when the alternator was cold and sounded just like your description. So there is a start on the trouble shooting with that problem.

The actuator located on the side of the fan motor in the rear is the difficult one and I think that is the one you'll need to replace. The one under the cup holder controls the top/floor selection while the other controls the air temp.

Here is a link with a detailed picture.
