So looks bad but my rear camera has gone all hazy. If I can get a new camera out of the recall then it's a win for me.

I paid a $100 deductible + tax (via my Ford Premium ESP) to repair this issue on my 2015 Expedition Limited. I will research to see if Ford will reimburse me for the repair.

I had just purchased a replacement backup camera from my local dealership last week when I received email notice of this recall. When I called the service department today, they said Ford has not provided a remedy yet. Should I go ahead and replace the camera myself as I originally planned OR return the camera and wait for the "remedy" (in case it is a different camera/model or requires additional work)?

It's about time! Our camera has been doing this for years!

@WGrish I can't answer for you exactly, as each dealer is different, but with the brake recall, Ford said if we do it ourselves, we would not get our money refunded once the remedy is out. Seems to be different for every dealer though...

My camera did this for several years. I tried to fix it a few times by cleaning out the connector. The ultimate fix was replacing the camera harness. I just repaired it a few weeks ago because my daughter has been driving the vehicle and I felt uncomfortable letting her reverse in the congested school lot without the camera.

Our 2017 EL has done this since day 1. Ford cleaned the harness connectors a few times while we were in warranty which fixed it for a few months, but TBH the camera works whenever it feels like it. I thought it was humidity-related as it seemed worse on highly humid/rainy days, but no. Sometimes slamming the tailgate fixes it, other times it breaks it. I just told my son last night (as I backed my trailer without it, again) that I'm going to order one. I might do it anyway, given that I'm still waiting for my "turn" on the brake MC/booster recall and don't want to wait 2 years .

As a related question, what has been your experience with recalls at the Dealership trying to upsell other fixes? Every time I take one in (I own 5 Fords: Expy, Edge, Fusion, 2 Focuses, so lots of recalls) they always seem to find $2k-3k in "things you need to fix ASAP" that are always stupidly overpriced. Like $400+ for a cracked $38 degas bottle on a 2017 Focus that takes 15 minutes to change (no bolts). $1,200 for a $15 (Fel-pro, so not OEM to be fair) valve cover gasket that took me 2 hours, etc.

Any word on the backup camera recall status? Mine has the same symptoms as related by the announcement. The website says we’ll be notified when they start the program. However, I’m not the original owner so wonder if Ford knows how to contact me. I looked on the Ford website for a means of registering but didn’t find anything. Any suggestions?

Well I just got two recall letters from Ford. One saying the master brake cylinder part is in and I can schedule to have it replaced. The second saying I'm affected by the backup camera recall but to wait until parts are available.
