I was a Chrysler/Jeep service advisor for the last 5 years and for the last 30 years with other manufacturers. So back on April 5th of this year I got to my desk at 06:45 and wrote up a few customers while I awaited my “service director” to get her ass into her office! Like usual she showed up at the crack of 10:30! I walked into her office and told her “I can’t do this shit any more! I done, later!” I then packed my and left. She did exactly what I thought and spent exactly 0 seconds trying to change my mind. After all she has plenty of unqualified idiots from Aldi and Burger Kind who want to be advisors which she’s more than willing to hire! This, lack of care for my paycheck & others along with her position being bestowed upon her because her brother in law is the Vice President of our company (nepotism) was why I had had enough!

Anyway, my wife and I decided to celebrate the next day by going to dinner and a movie. We were driving her old 05 Expy, that she refuses to crush, when I made the mistake of saying, “you know this old truck runs pretty good and has never really let us down. Maybe we should put some money into some cosmetic things?” Not 15 minutes later we lost 4th gear. So we finish up with our plans and I decide to take it into the dealership for a diag! I’m pretty sure I know what it is, 4th gear servo snap ring, but don’t want to do it in my driveway on my back. Anyway, the trans tech refuses to drop the pan and instead wants to replace the entire assem that’s just out of its 3 yr warranty. I decline and pick it up. On the way home BOOM, the pass side timing chain tensioner explodes! So now, the one job I swore I would NEVER do in this vehicle, I’m balls deep into! All spark plugs, with the exception of #7, came out without any issues. Unfortunately #7 rounded off so now I’m awaited a set of deepwall extractor sockets to get here. I just pray it comes out without any further issues. I already sprayed PB blaster down in the plug well which seems to have gotten down into the threads.

On the bright side I picked up a ‘13 XLT 2x4 that’s looks almost brand new for $3k. A former advisor I worked with at Ford bought it from a lady a year ago for $3k who decided to buy a new one instead of fixing this one. It’s just been sitting at the dealership gathering dust. Best case it’s got a bad rocker and worse it needs an engine. Either way I make out like a bandit and my wife gets one hell of an upgrade over her 05!

Anyway, I HATE CARS!!!

Maybe it was good luck, not everyone can pick up a 13 for 3 grand. And the 05 issues convinced your wife to move on. Hope it goes well.

Well she wants to give the 05 to my youngest son and keep the 13 for herself. I told her if it’s a lifter, cam, etc I can take care of it but if it’s an engine I’d rather pay someone else to do it. However, she doesn’t want to spend the extra $ on the install and would rather I do it. I guess since my time is so unimportant?!?

Probably because she knows you care about your family & knows others care more about your money. Be thankful & grateful that she has more trust in you repairing something than other people. Keep it up and you will change her mind in the future. You could end up with that "Now what did I do to deserve this ****" look on your face.
She is a keeper & obviously loves you. Take advantage of the moment since you know what you are doing.
