My 2022 Timberline just gave the battery “Starting to go” message on my app. I’m wondering if this is an “urgent, replace right now!” thing. From the posts it sounds like folks go a bit. Do I have at least a week before achance it would quit running?

These AGM batteries tend to go pretty quick. You may start to see certain functions not working properly in an attempt to save battery power.
But when it does go it will go all at once....it may last a week and then again, it may leave you stranded the next time your out shopping.....
4 years is about the life of the OE battery......the AGM in my previous 20021 Ranger lasted right around 4 years. When I replaced it, I went with a Weize battery from Amazon.....direct AGM replacement for, at the time, $149 with free delivery. Now around $170, but a good rated battery. Lots of members on the 5g Ranger Forums have bought them with good results.....half the cost of an OE battery.
My "new" 2019 Expy had a new battery installed at the dealership when I bought it a few months ago.

You’re in an area with cold and snow now.

Don’t chance it. Replace the battery on your terms (now) - not when you’re stranded in a dark parking lot somewhere and the stores are closed.

Great information. Thank you. Yes, I often replace my batteries on the calendar and not when they fail to start the car. So, I’m new to AGMs — this isn’t a situation where the car will actually die going down the road?

No, it won't die while driving.....but it may start at your home when you run to the store.....and not start at the store. They can go that quick.

With battery getting low, first thing you may notice that goes is the Auto Start/Stop. After that you will notice little things like: seat memory resets and you have to set it up again, clock switches from 12H to 24H, dash board settings go to default, get the message that accessories are not on to preserve the battery. Once I replaced the battery couple month ago, (which turned out to be the original to the truck as it had a date of 3/25/2019!) the first message I saw was " ALL accessory functions are normal.", then the auto start/stop started working! We also have a 2019 Edge Titanium and when the battery started to go low, the auto start/stop stopped working.

BTW - it is an easy thing to do DIY, just remember to reset the BMS - Battery Management System. All my previous settings stayed, too! Phew!

Thank you, sir. That is great to hear. I would like to do it myself. I’ll have to research where the BMS reset is. I don’t have the start stop, but this morning the remote start did not work kind of gave ME a little bit of a start because I was five hours from home.

Look up BMS.. it is a simple thing.. once battery is installed, press start button to turn on accessories, do not start the engine, flash the high beams 5 times, depress the brake pedal 3 times, then the battery light on the dash will flash then glow steady. That means yo uhave reset the BMS.

Although batteries are NOT cheap, I strongly recommend replacing one's battery at the first sign of trouble. Our 2019 Limited wouldn't start the other day. I charged it for a while and then drove it immediately to the battery store (not the dealer). The replacement AGM battery cost $260. It has a lifetime replacement warranty. I think it was a good investment.

Just had mine replaced last Thursday. Mine a 2022 expedition plat with 15000 miles. 39 months old bought new. Not driving enough longer trips is harder on battery too. So many things run in the background in the new cars.

My 2020 Expedition just got a new FoMoCo battery for $249

Upgrade the battery from H6 to H8. The bigger battery fits perfectly, besides that battery blanket. Did this to my 24 SPP, because I had an H8 battery kicking around and wanted more power for my Bluetti and other gadgets in the truck. When the battery fails, or near dead, you get weird things, like different sound dings, things shut off, burns more fuel, doesn’t use start stop anymore, etc. 4 years is a bit low on a battery. On my 18 f150 diesel the H8 lasted 6 years.
