Blinking mileage and AC/Heater Console lights

I have a 2000 Expedition XLT. Both my odometer and my AC/Heater lights blink on and off. I can tap on the speedometer dash to get the odometer light to come back on. The AC/Heater lights rarely come on now. I assume a loose connection or dirt in the contacts. How do you take off the dash or the AC/Heater plate to get at the connections? I have checked the fuses and reseated them, so that is not the problem.
