I just thought I would throw this out there. While I am not a fan of Volvos, I do feel the BLIS notification location is much better.

Has anyone given thought to adding additional notification to the interior of the car?

Maybe in the same location?

I think that's a great idea. For those who don't have this option, you can get an aftermarket BLIS system with an LED that you can mount anywhere you like:

There are many similar systems with lower prices as well.

I also had an idea of installing a dedicated blind spot LCD monitor screen, perhaps at the base of the A pillar. A side mounted, rear-facing camera would provide a video feed. Any small monitor like this could be used:

I have this feature on a 2014 Impala 2LTZ and liked it so much that I ordered the BLIS system on my 2015 Ford Expedtion Limited 4x4. The warning lights in the outside mirrors of the Impala are very bright and much larger than Ford's small dot light.

I quickly found a design flaw with the Ford system. The orange outside mirror warning light is no bigger than the diameter of a #2 pencil. If you turn on the vehicle headlamps (think cloudy weather or rain during the daytime) the orange BLIS warning light is dimmed and very difficult to see. My state requires the headlamps on during any rain - including daytime.

I don't know why Ford made the light so small and designed it to dim when the headlamps are on - a stupid design.

My wife's MDX has the warning light in the same location as the pic above and I can't stand it. i prefer the light on the mirror. I would rather look at my mirror directly and see the light then look at my mirror and see the light in my peripheral

I like the system on the GM as well. On the Yukon it's a nice big light in the Mirror showing an impact and it's easily noticeable compared to Fords dot, hopefully they change it. I really don't mind I don't have it and just look in my mirrors. The expedition doesn't have bad blind spots IMO compared to Edge and Explorer because their body is so bubbly compared to ours with a more boxed body and we have HUGE mirrors.

Good idea with the camera.

I was thinking the wiring for the light in the mirror could be tapped into and connected to an LED that could be added in the same spot as the Volvo on my Expedition.

I figured someone here might have the knowledge to make it work.

I wish I could help, but I don't have any wiring diagrams for vehicles new enough to include BLIS. The real question is whether the LED is powered from outside the mirror (i.e. are there two wires running to the mirror for it) or if there is some sort of module inside the mirror housing and it's connected to that.

I can tell you from experience, though, that taking the mirror apart to customize it can be a huge PITA. Just getting the glass out without breaking it is an art. Like most things, these parts are designed to snap together once at the factory and then never come apart again.

On Fusions with BLIS, the LED is powered by the module in the rear bumper, so two wire control but the LED is mounted to a small circuit board that I haven't deciphered yet. I used a paralleled resistor to make mine a little brighter to offset my tinted windows. Perhaps a tiny capacitor would be better suited to even out the PWM that "dims" the LEDs at night.

It'd be really nice to modify the design so the circuit board sits elsewhere. near as I can tell, the only thing preventing the entire BLIS graphic from illuminating is the circuit board intentionally blocking the graphics. Move the board and use an external LED, maybe the entire graphic will light up!

Can you post a wiring diagram? I'm wondering if this system can be retrofitted into another vehicle. . . Thanks! :)
