Brake Rotors

I think its about time to replace my rotors and brake pads but im a little nervous about doing it. I have done brakes before but I think the expeditions have a wheel bearing and all that mess with them. I bought rotors and pads last night and was noticing that some of the rotors ive seen have the wheel studs already on them. Mine dont. do I have to put my old ones onto my new ones or what?

Nah, rotors and pads are fine. The hard part will be getting the old rotors off. If they've been on to long they can seize on there. Make sure you have plenty of time to work on them, and use plenty of penetrating fluid like PB Blaster and a really big hammer. Took a day and a half to get my old ones off.

Agreed, since yours is a 4x4 all you have to do is get the old one off and slide the new one over the wheel studs.

Only us 2wd guys have to change out wheel bearings when we swap rotors because the hub and rotor is one piece.

can not stress the importance of soaking with PB blaster (or your comparable choice) enough. Mine only had 30k on it when I did the front rotors and they were still difficult to get off. Good luck, Mike

Yeah, I had heard about that method AFTER I had already done mine. Haven't tried it. I even read about people cutting them off, too. Do yourself a favor, and when you put the mounting bolts for the caliper mounting bracket back on, MAKE SURE THEY'RE TIGHT. One of mine was just barely loose, and I drove myself NUTS trying to figure out what this new "popping" noise was. Like I said before, though, just be patient and make sure you have plenty of time to work on it. Let us know how it goes for ya.

I wish I would have seen that youtube before I hammered all day, then gave up and replaced the whole Hub!

Yeah I started at 12 on a saturday, didn't get finished till mid day Sunday. Started with a ball peen, moved on to a framer, then a demolition, and finally a 5lbs sledge. Surprised I didn't knock it outta alignment. Trust me, I had it checked, too.

Sorry I didnt chime in earlier I seen this same vid posted on the f150 forum I have used the techniques and they do work my back 2 were pretty much seized on and my front 2 came right off

Anti-seize for new brake rotors

Also, the Ford Mechanics at the stealerships reassemble the rotors with a coating of anti-seize for the next time! Just saying………….
