Cabin Filter Location?

I removed my glove box for a sec but I was wondering if this area is where the cabin filter for a 97 EB is or if the vent is leading to the cabin filter under the black shroud near the windshield? I am getting this strange odor from when I turn on the AC and if I did have a cabin filter, would this be the common area where it would be? Thx

From my understanding there is no cabin filter unless you had it installed from the dealer as an upgrade. My 97 is the same way. It pulls air from the inside of the truck not the outside. If there was one it would be located right underneath the blower below the golvebox.

How would I go about seeing if it was installed by a dealer? Do I take it to the dealer and have them do it?

If you look at your passenger side footwell, that is where the blower is located. With the upgrade there is a filter that would be installed in there. My only guess is if you do not see anything it does not have it. I went through this last month with mine as well. Most cars will draw air from the outside requiring a filter, but the expos draw it from the inside.

Sorry to dig up an old thread... But if there is no damn air filter in the expedition, why are people selling them???? I bought one and now I see I don't need it... Ugh.

it was an option that not many people went with, 2 locations one is under the dash the other is in the windsheild cowling... my 97 and 02 doesnt have them

I researched this sometime back because I wanted to install one. There was a kit from ford available but it has long since been discontinued.
