Guys, I think my Expedition may have another issue after the cam phaser replacement. I'm on a vacation to Florida and after a drive over 2 hours, I saw white smoke coming out from the hood near front passenger side with rubber smell. Is that normal?

I pulled over and check coolant level, it's still good but as long as I started driving, I saw smoke again. The transmission temp is around 214-218. Of course Ford dealer closes on Sunday, I need to to check if anyone has ideas.

Examine the front of the vehicle, inside the grille, and under the vehicle to see if road debris attached to the vehicle (such as a piece of plastic or plastic bag) and is burning or melting.

And or maybe they made a giant mess with oil or other fluids that are just burning off. I found oil all over my frame and chassis after the vct phaser fix.

Back when I was flight instructing (circa 1990s), I had one of these open up during flight on a single engine airplane (C210). The owner had added a tube from the plug and routed it outside the cowling. The cowling vibrations pushed the plug open and that was that. Made an emergency landing at a nearby airport, but the engine was ruined from lack of oil costing about $56,000 in 1990 $$. Similar incidents triggered an AD (Airworthiness Directive) to make these type of quick-drain plugs illegal for aircraft.

Your mileage may vary, but I'm having mine removed next time in. I mean really, how much time/effort can they really save?

A lot has changed since 1990. My valve is spring loaded and I also have the locking clip. With the heat shield/sound dampener(F150) it’s almost impossible for it to come open or have something hit it from the road. It’s not a time saver but a clean up saver. I got tired of cleaning up huge areas of oil that sprays everywhere when doing oil changes. It’s a bad design and Ford should have it facing down versus to the side.

Update. I guess they spilled something and it burned off. I don't have any smoke in two days in Florida.

I’m in the “No possible way” a Fumoto valve caused an oil pressure problem. I have been using them for 10 years with no issues. When I first started using them I read about possible remnant oil left in the pan, so after draining the oil I pulled the valve to see how much was still in there. Less than 1/4 teaspoon… I always let mine drain overnight, so I am confident that I am getting a better oil change. I did not do this before I had Fumoto valves. The valve is designed so that it is almost impossible for it to be accidentally opened. A simple plastic clip is now included to remove even a small possibility. The only problem that I have had is when I went in to a Ford dealer to use Ford pass points for an oil change. I told them I had the valve, and would be glad to show them how to use it. I even brought in my 90 degree fitting/hose. They didn’t know what I was talking about. They removed the valve to change the oil, and lost my safety clip. Now I know to remove the clip before I go in for The Works, and INSIST they don’t remove my valve. At least the oil change was free for critical workers during the pandemic. They wanted $30 more to use synthetic oil, so I had the semi synthetic junk put in. Changed it in a little less than 4000 miles to full synthetic.
