Can the transmission filter not be in the right spot?

Truck isn't moving after pan drop. 08 XLT 4x4, I can't tell if it's the 6r75 or 6r80. It drove before I dropped the pan, just leaked.

Dropped pan to reseal properly after a dripping leak. Sadly, the filter doesn't have a bolt to secure it while attempting to put the pan back on, so I'm never completely confident that the filter kept its little nipple stuck in the transmission.

Is it even possible to put the pan back on without the filter being in the correct spot? I filled the transmission with the correct amount, and it looks to be right on the stick. When attempting to move, engine rpm drops but no feel of transmission engagement.

Im about to go reset the TCM with Forscan. No codes so far, self test came back clean. Does anyone else have an idea?

For trans type you might need to reach out to the dealer and give them your vin, sounds like your year was around the transition from 6R75 to 80.

So if you removed the filter you need to double check the seal. I would also never reuse a filter especially that seal on the filter because they get hard and take a set, that causes them to not seal properly on the second install and suck air above the fluid level.

Just once, many years ago, the old seal stayed in the tube without me noticing on my 2000 Expy. Fortunately I figured that out before I put the pan back on. Do you recall seeing the old seal? And is your transmission type under TR on your door jam sticker? Should be a single letter code. I changed the fluid & screen every 30K miles on that 2000. I sold it at 386,000 and had never had a transmission issue.
