Good evening all. I'm hoping I can get some help. I'm sure it's a very obvious answer and warrants some mocking. Fair enough lol. This is my mother's 2004 Expedition and I'm not very familiar with it. She has the check engine light on. Rough idle. Some misfires sprinkled in there every now and then. Upon opening the hood I noticed a large hole in the engine that didn't seem normal. Red flag? I am completely missing that part pointed at with the yellow arrow. That pipe connection into my engine is missing, there's a hole in the engine, literally, and I can not find what that part is or does. Please can anyone let me know what it is what it does where it goes, without making too much fun. Lol thanks in advance and happy new year all.

Honestly, I can't really see much in that photo, but looks like it may be the PCV.

I think you mean the PCV valve is not in it's place in the valve cover right ? Where is it ? It should be very close by unless someone removed the hose and all ... and yes, that will trigger all kinds of lean codes and missing ....

Looks like a PCV valve to me. There's a sticker somewhere on the fan shroud or under the hood that shows a vacuum tube schematic. Follow that and see what should be there and what should be connected to what.

The question is where did it go? Is the oil regularly changed? Sometimes a fuel vapor buildup can cause an explosion that blows out the PCV. More likely the rubber just broke down and it fell out.

What those guys said… PCV valve. You can find the vacuum info under the hood as stated earlier.

I replaced the PCV on my (now my daughter’s) ‘04 Eddie Bauer. What I found is that the OEM setup can not be purchased at your local auto parts store. This is what I had to get from the dealer. Unfortunately, you can’t just get the valve; it’s the complete assembly as seen in the pic.

Sure, you could find something that’ll fit at the local parts store. Especially since it seems a few things are not in place; really hard to tell. It’s not too hard to figure out once you know what your looking for.

See item 2 circled in pic. Valve end goes in valve cover, and the other ends attach behind manifold. I don’t remember exactly, but I’ll try to find pics for you. I’m not near the truck to glance at it unfortunately.

Ok, so unfortunately, this is the best pic I can find that shows the entire component in a single pic with other engine parts around for a reference.

I njust changed it in my '03. Change the PCV valve and the hose assembly. The rubber gets brittle and it will be brioken when you move it. Yers, it causses the problems you mentioned. Been there, done that.
