Hi all,

I just picked up a used 1998 Expedition XLT. Very nice truck! The downside of moving from my old '92 F-150 to the Expedition is that I had to sell my CB radio with the F-150. Since I do a lot of over-the-road driving I've really come to rely upon having a CB and miss it quite a lot, so I'll be installing one in the near future. The thing is... the Expedition is a lot different from my past vehicles (like having the nice fabric lining on the roof of the cab!), so I don't dare do the general "screw all the mounting brackets into the sheet metal and go" routine that I used with all my old trucks.

I'm curious if anybody here has a CB in their Expedition/Excursion/Explorer? If you have installed a radio, what make and model radio did you choose? What type of antenna (make, model, magnet/pass-thru-glass/etc) did you use? Where did you install the radio? Where did you mount the antenna? How did you wire it in, and why? What difficulties have you encountered?

I look forward to your comments!

Thanks,
Feren

I use a CB in mine for long trips. I can't guess at how many times my CB has saved me from tickets on the highway not to mention avoiding accidents etc. I never leave on a trip without it
. It's a Connex 3300 HP. I have never wanted it permanently installed as I dont use it except for the trips. I use a Wilson magnet mount antenna and just run the wire in the back window. I have a cigarette plug adapter for the radio and just lay it on the passenger seat. I read a post a while back that someone installed their radio in the center console and have thought about doing that. I have never used one..but have seen CB antenna's that are glass mount and look like an old school cell antenna. I dont know how well these work. Good luck.
