I apologize for the length of this post but I want to give you all of the info.
SYMPTOM
Radio only outputs a squeal/static out of rear speakers. Volume of noise doesn't change even though head unit shows volume going up and down. Can shut off head unit which stops noise, but when vehicle is shut off the noises persists for about 5-10 seconds, then changes to a small clicking noise and seems to stay there until you restart it, at which point you can turn off the head unit again to stop the noise. Tried different modes on the head unit (like bluetooth) and nothing changed. Radio is a 1st gen Sync with the green 2 line display.
BACKGROUND
The vehicle sat for several months. So long that the battery died and actually went bad and wouldn't take a charge (1.5 years old). So this battery was COMPLETELY bad. No voltage at all. And was like that for some time. For several years the Bluetooth would play music but would have 1-2 seconds of silence pretty frequently and the rear controls stopped controlling the head unit as well.
QUESTIONS
1. Do you think the problem is the head unit or the APIM?
2. Just to tule out a programming issue, is there a way I can get a correcr set of codes for my APIM and reflash that? That way it would overwrite anything that may be corrupted from the battery issue.
3. Would it be worth upgrading the head unit if I have to end up replacing it? If so, what would be good to upgrade it to so i dont lose steering button functionality, etc.
Thanks in advance.
