changing stock subwoofer

I have an 06 expedition eddie bauer 4wd 5.4 i want to change the stock subwoofer with an aftermarket one. Will it switch out with no problem with a shallow mount one or is there more to changing over?

It has been done. I actually have a sub I plan on putting in the stock enclosure along with adding an amp in my 05 Navi. I have not gotten into it yet but the factory box is relatively shallow enough that some regular subs may fit, possibly with a spacer, but don't expect an SPL sub to fit at all. There is a bolt in the back of the box holding the sub in so the enclosure has to be removed to get the factory sub out and the bolt hole has to be sealed. I am trying the Polk MM 8" as it's relatively efficient and on the shorter side for an 8". The JL Stealthbox is advertized only for the L models but that too has been done and has a 10" sub. It's discontinued however still available a few places online.
