dash,head lamps dim

k...ive noticed that in drive at a stop light....dash,headlites,radio....dimms a little. :eek:

truck charges fine...even charged battery few months ago.

if i TAP gas pedal...it brightens normal...like driving(moving). i mean ...just "tap"...it barely while at a full stop in drive it dimms slightly..

any suggestions people? 97 4.6

my old 97 f150 did the exact same thing after I change the altenator... never did figure out why... hope someone gives you the answer would be cool to know what it might have been....

yea...doesnt seem to affect things.....had truck over 2 yrs....alter. HAD 2b changed b4 i owned it (134,000).

it dimms pretty much thou...u can hear affect in heater blower tone(sound) on high when its turned on.

if ildle was a HAAAIR up high....think it would do it.

The alternator might not have the same output as stock, or might be running a different size pulley wheel (underdrive). I know a programmer can bump up the idle, but I think a shop might be able to do it for you too.

It's normal....the stock alternators, do the job, but barely(many aftermarket alternators will do the same thing) . if you reduce the load(led tail lamps) it should get better.

i have the answer for them damn dimming lights lol. ford has really bad ground wires, just change the wire that goes from the battery to the alternater to a 0 guage wire. and do the same for the ground wire from the battery to the truck body to a 0 guage wire. that will fix all the dimming lights. i did it to mine and never did it anymore. hope that helps

Good to know. I will have to do this. I noticed my headlights dimming when my ABS is pumping my brakes for me:mad:.
