Dead keypad

i had rocker panels replaced about a year ago. 2004 limited. At some time after that I noticed the keypad did not work. No lights at all on the keypad. All other electrical functions of the door work properly. The remote keys works properly. Locks work properly. Any ideas?

It's possible that the electrical connection was cut or disconnected. I would pull the door panel and check the connections to the keypad. If it looks good follow the wires and look for a short.

I have a 2003 EB and had one rocker replaced about 3 years ago. It was $600.00 installed. I'm curious what you were charged.

Both panels replaced for $5000. Guess I set the curve!

5 grand! That's what the retail value of the truck is. Yikes! Before you yank the panel, check all your fuses in passenger kick panel. Their may be one just for the light on door, tied in with another light. Might want to start there.

They must have used the full rockers from Ford. The doors have to come off and the rockers are welded
into the upper body at the door jams and the middle frame. That's the best way to do it but it's expensive.

Where do the wires from the door plug in on the car side.

My key pad had a couple of dead buttons, but would still light. Try press other numbers at night, see if interior lights go on. I dissected the old one. The contacts had a green corrosion on them. I have heard, some have a battery. The battery versions are raised and stick up a bit.

Thanks. Nothing works on the keyboard. It’s either the ground wire interrupted somewhere or five bad buttons. Going to look under rubber boot boot between door and frame when weather is better. If ok take door apart

The wiring for the key pad goes directly to the Security Module

The harness goes from the drivers door and then under the carpet from front towards the rear to between the front and middle seats the harness crosses over to the passenger side and then continues forward again under the carpet to the passenger foot well and then to the security module which is located near and above the fuse box

There is probably not a fuse that controls only the keypad. Nothing else is wrong

There are 4 fuses for the VSM #5, #6, #30 and #40 They are also used for other circuits
You may want to check them to be sure.

The 2nd gens, used both, stick on and factory hard wired. The stick on, dealer installed ones have batteries.

If an LED goes out on the keypad, how difficult is that unit to access and replace? And is the keypad somehow linked via serial number or something to the security module? Or can any keypad be interchanged and everything still works fine?

Follow up for dead keypad: I moved the rubber boot between door and frame around as much as possible. Wires looked normal. I then took the door apart. One wire connector near the rearview mirror area was in completely snapped together. After pushing it together keypad and everything else works normally. I appreciate all the feedback and especially Bedrck47 for providing the electrical schematics
