I've always preferred pullers.

The thing you lose with the cheaper controllers (pretty much just a relay) is the soft start capability. It's either full on, or off. With other setups, it will start up slowly, increasing speed as needed. There were few times when my Mark VIII ran at full speed.

This also helps with the current draw.

just so i have this straight, pushers go in FRONT of the radiator, and the pullers go BEHIND the radiator correct?

thermo im stupid when it comes to efan electronics. these controllers that you speak of can you give me a link so i can see them? im good at installing electronics i just dont know much about efans at all. thats why i have yet to do it. i would like the ability to pull over 3000cfm of course extra cooling ability is always a plus. if you tell me replace a rear main seal or pull a motor and rebuild your speaking my language with anything mechanical. just not electrical lol.

The controllers aren't that complicated. Usually, they'll have your typical + and - input, and temp sensor input, a way to adjust the turn on temp (usually by a variable resistor), an AC input (to turn the fan(s) full blast when you turn on the AC), and one or two sets of + and - outputs, to power the fan(s).

Not much else after that. As thermo mentioned earlier, the temp sensor goes into the radiator fins. Just find a place to mount the controller, and route the wires. Depending on the fan(s) you get, you'll mount the fans with plastic push through zip ties, or directly to the "frame" of the radiator. The AC input you tap off the the power wire going to AC condenser (I think it's a yellow wire).

I'm sure I'm missing something, but that's the gist of it. :) If you want to get a little more "fancy" you can install manual override switches in the cabin that will force the fans to turn on in case the controller fails (you'll see your temp gauge climb up real quick). Some controllers have "status" lights that let you know how fast the fans are spinning (0%, 50%, 100%, etc).

2000eb, let me do some looking around for something that I would use in my truck. I believe in KISS. I don't need these fancy variable speed controllers and whatnot. If anything, I feel that they are harder on the fans as they are pulsing the fan and cause it to see lots of current every time it gets hit with the next jolt to make it spin at some speed other than full speed.

if that link works for you look at the "frequently bought together" its 5000 total cfm kit. i like amazon too. i bought my ford alarm key fob for 10 bucks plus 5 for s&h so 15 out the door vs. 68 at stealership. and it works just fine.

wow, that really free's up a lot of room! looks good. i will be doing this maybe this winter, or spring. wife gave me permission to build the expy for our "fun days" next year. its a weekend of food, street dances, truck/tractor pulls, and mud runs. I told her i want to build a truck for each, she said no, I get one...got her! hahah. so debating on engine. i want to build for both, truck pull and mud run...we will discuss this more in the engine section!

2000EB, that has the controller like what I would recommend. IT is an electronic controller, not a wire wound one. Personally, I would recommend getting 2 of the controllers so you can controller the fans independently, but you can also wire them up to kick on together. The big thing you want to watch out for is not to overload the relay. From what I found, each fan is going to pull 12.5 amps when running. So, you need to make sure that the relay is rated for atleast 30 amps. Worst case, you will need to get a second relay (20 amp) and then use the relay built into the controller to kick on the second relay. If you need help with this, let me know. I can make up a drawing for you to explain what I am trying to get at.

doesnt sound too bad i gotta get the truck into the shop for some warranty work then i got my list of to-do's that i will be leaping into. efan, under drive pulleys, edge cs etc.

but have you heard anything bout procomp fans do you believe it will pull 5000cfm between the 2?

Mark VIII fan should be enough.

^^^^^^^ Exactly what Im planning to do! Should be pretty much an easy plug and play and it will flow more than enough to cool her down. Im gonna put one in my Lightning too… If I can find them. They're so ridiculously hard to find out here.
