How are you activating Sport mode in 2wheel drive on a 4WD Expy? Sport mode automatically activates 4A on mine. It would be nice to be able to get the handling of sport mode without holding the gears or going into 4A. The stiffness is the best part, IMO.

Sport mode activates 4A, but you can push the 2H button to go back to RWD.

Put it in sport mode then press 2H. Yep it goes into 4A unless you press the 2H

Is this why the limited I drove today felt so lumbering until it got going? I had a sales guy that was more interested in lunch than talking to me and when he did I didn’t get much out of him. At least he tased it up before he turned me loose.

one I was in did not have the 3.73s. It was sluggish enough I wouldn’t consider it at any price as I wanted tow package anyway and can’t stand how slow it got rolling. Went great once it hit like 25-30. Maybe it just needed a setting Chang to normal?

this was a 4wd truck

If you put it in Eco the acceleration would definitely have been affected. But you or the hungry salesman would have had to select Eco because the vehicle wouldn’t have defaulted to it.

The 3.31 v 3.73 would not have made your acceleration noticeably different. Maybe a bit, but certainly not enough to make the vehicle feel sluggish. I do not have the tow pack and Normal is plenty quick and Sport is downright twitchy, certainly quicker off the line than my F150 that did have the heavy tow pack.

You sure there wasn’t a boat attached to the back or something? Lol

Sport-4A is another babysitter function so you can't spin the tires, spin it out, roll it over, etc. Its the manufacturer protecting those that can't drive.

I looked down to see if the parking brake was on and it was driving through it. Was surprised at how it felt. All the reviews praised the power so I was expecting to get blown away. No joke, the minivan feels downright **** compared to that rig on takeoff. Once it gets moving it’s no contest when the hairdryers spool up. Just totally not what I was expecting.

I didn’t mess with anything so whatever is default was it.

Something was up...that’s not how these things behave normally.

That one is way marked down from sitting so long. Might be why. As I left I was backing out and noticed the pass side looked like the front bottom of the rear side door was rolled or curled in a bit. That and the drivers door not shutting easily a few times made me question the build quality. It was a pretty smooth and quiet ride. Maybe just poor fit and finish. I do want to try a 3.73 truck and see what I think. These guys had 6 on the lot and not one with tow package. At least they are close to the house. Have to make a trip to try out others. No DVD players either. Tried to sell me on an aftermarket. It’s “better” he said.

Was the one you drove new or used? Which ltd trim did you buy? When i first got mines, the doors were extremely hard to close. It was due to the seals and airflow of the car. After owning for so long, its easier to close but still harder than normal. Also, even in eco mode, the truck was from from lethargic. Sometimes the turbos take some time to spool and the tranny takes a step to get in a good gear, it never seems to need power in normal and sport can feel scary sometimes.

Don’t count the 3.31 out based on the experience with that unit as that particular vehicle seems a little shady. I don’t have the tow pack and I don’t miss it. If you want it, go for it. But don’t think you’re getting an inferior product with the 3.31 vs the 3.73. Remember both of those are lager gear ratios than come on the suburban, so again, not an inferior product. Different tools for different jobs. (Yes, I know this post will be followed by 14 from other folks educating all of us why the 3.73 is better. And it might be better! But it wasn’t $1700 better for me as I never tow anything.)

As far as the rear seat entertainment, there’s a lot of opinions on here. I was never going to spend $2k on a system that was already inferior to a pair of iPads (which would be cheaper). So I skipped it and bought two DVD players from amazon for $250 and they’ve been great for two years worth of road trips. Again, if you want the factory system, go for it!

Good on you for taking your time and making sure you’re getting what you want. [emoji1360]

I’ve got three little kids so I need something easy for me to control and them to not have to hold.

this was a truck with 35 miles on it when I took off. Been in them at auto show, but never drove one before yesterday.

I’ll say my old 7.3 will take off with a lot more pep off the line. I actually put 3.55s in it because it was pointless to have 4.10s unless always maxing it out. That truck is all stock too, I hurt the tranny in my previous 7.3 by hot rodding things a bit and I hate walking so this truck is stock. It’s so old now I want to replace it with an expy that can do enough for most of what I do.

I also would rather have a 2wd and the insurance of a locker in back makes that easier to choose. Ford doesn’t break out different mpgs with the different gears. I tend to think you’d use 10th more than with 3.31s and it won’t even be noticed. Nobody I’ve asked seems to know if gears in f150s with those engine change the mpg numbers.

I believe the thinking is if you are going to put in Sport then you are more likely to want to drive it like you stole it. Therefore, it defaults to 4A so you have better traction to get those amazing GT like 1/4 mile times.

I wouldn't hesitate to give a GT a run for its money... fun to see the concern on their face if only for part of the ride ;).
