Engin knock........

1999 Expedition, Eddie Bauer edition, 5.4L, 171,000 miles, new motorcraft plugs, new Granetelli street fighter coils, just changed the oil with Motorcraft 5-30 and a Motorcraft filter. Went out to jump start my sons Pontiac and as I got to around 1,800 RPM the Expedition started to knock, not pinging, a full out knocking. Let her idle and she's fine, get her to around 1,800 she knocks. I cant hear any knocking going down the freeway, no check engine light. Any advice?

Well, I'm taking her to Ford to have the bottom end rebuilt............looks like bologna sandwiches for awhile! Lol!

Mine has been knocking for 60,000 miles. Still runs just fine... Though it is a little unnerving haha. I think it is a common occurence with these early 5.4L's

Yes, my rod and main bearings were shot. #4 rod bearing came out in four pieces .........

I got lucky, no damage to the crank.
