Engine Light Causing Non Start???

I just read an article that pointed to the Expedition 2006 as the one model to avoid for several reasons. But the one reason that made me nervous is that "when the engine light comes on, no matter the reason, the car might not start".

My Expedition is now on the way to the shop again, this time it seems to be the starter motor, as it won't start and there was a click sound. However, I have had the engine light coming up sometimes because of insufficient catalytic converter issue. Can this actually be the cause of the no start?

If you here a click but no start that could be just a bad battery or a bad battery connection
