expidition starting problem

well here it goes i have had my xlt truck for a year and a half since i have bought it sometimes. When i go to start it makes a loud scratching or grinding noise and wont start after it makes that noise then couple more try's and it starts fine ? i am assuming its the starter or the flywheel? i need suggestions please:nono:

Hmm, my roommate's dad's Expedition had trouble starting. It would sometimes take several tries to get it started. I'll ask him if he has fixed it.

Sounds like the starter isn't fully engaging. I'd have it checked out. A quick peek would likely tell you what's up with it.

pronstar thx for the advise i have looked at the starter and it looks like pain too take out but i well try a gander at it soon

i've had a similar problem, but mine is easily fixed. When I go to start it I get a loud grinding. Then I simply wiggle the lever to make sure that it is fully in park. Once I do that it starts up fine every time. I believe there is something that is not lined up correctly with the automatic lever on the steering column causing something to misalign.
