fan noises

My 97 eddie bauer expedition sits in the drive way and all of a sudden I hear a loud fan noise or something come on for no reason. It also makes the noise often when I first start it. It goes away, but I am curious what it is.

If you have the air bag suspension it sounds like it could be your air compressor. Just my .02
