Prior to the release of the 2025 Expedition, there was a lot of speculation as to whether it would adopt the F150's Powerboost powertrain. As we all know, that unfortunately did not happen. But it appears that Ford has finally acknowledged consumer demand for more fuel efficient and capable hybrid powertrains. Ford is borrowing a page from Ram's Ramcharger playbook and plans to add extended-range electric vehicles (EREV) to its lineup.
For those not familiar with this class of vehicle, they're a specific hybrid configuration in which the gas engine solely powers a generator and electric motors are used to move the vehicle. You get benefits of electric powertrains, such as instant torque, one-pedal driving, and improved traction control, without the range limitation and less weight. Any thoughts on whether this class of vehicle will be a popular segment and what it might do to pricing? I know many on the forum expressed interest in a PHEV Expedition.
