What did it take to get that one out?

A non tapered EZ Out and an impact gun (tapered ones will put too much pressure on the threads and it will never come out)

Heard the spark plug issue was dealt with in later model years. Anyone knows when that happened?

Somewhere in the 2008 MY build cycle. Surely someone here can narrow it down a little further, though.

In the 5.4, it affects vehicles with build dates prior to 10/9/2007 (TSB 08-7-6).

Ford lied about when they stopped using these plugs. I had the engine replaced in 2010 under warranty. The engine had a 2010 reman date. A few years ago I changed the plugs and had 3 of them break on me. The Lisle tool made easy work of getting them out.

Just because the engine was replaced, doesn't mean the tech at the shop used the new style plugs....engines don't ship with spark plugs.

Yeah, was gonna say, the mechanic who swapped the engine must have used the older plugs.

Either way, they're out now, right?

Correct as factory installed, the original style plug is still available to purchase.
