Been a long time since last post. I have a question for any who removed the front air dam. I did this and sometime afterwards the “heat shield” under engine broke off, the shield broke from the front. It did not look like anything got jammed in and broke it, rather just the part connecting at all three bolts sheared off. For clarity all the bolts in the rear were still attached.

Was wondering if any possibility this could have been caused by u dear body turbulence caused by removing air dam? Don’t think so as FX4 doesn’t have air dam. Dealer replaced after some pushing on my part and animated argument under the body of the Expy when it was on lift.

Just curious also if anyone else had this failure?

Thanks,

Do you have a picture of the part that broke? Are you talking about the fiber coated plastic shields? One covers the front differential/steering rack area. A second fiber coated shield covers the transmission. Many have removed the front air dam without issues, so you raise an interesting scenario if it wasn't caused by hitting a parking curb, etc. The FX4 has a shorter air dam, and the skid plates replace the fiber coated front shield for the front diff area (the fiber shield for the transmission is still stock on the FX4).
