2016 Expedition EL Limited 205,000 Miles

Last summer I didn't have any issues with a hard downshift and loud clunk from 5th to 4th Gear while towing a trailer in tow/haul mode. I did replace do the 6R80 lead frame on the expedition last fall, and towed a trailer afterwards and I didn't notice anything like I did last night.

When I was driving I would be in 5th gear and take my foot off the gas and started lightly breaking. Which in tow haul mode it downshifts to help with breaking. It only happened when it down shifted from 5th to 4th. It is a good clunk, and I would not have missed it when I towed the trailer after replacing the lead frame. When I continued to break it would downshift perfectly fine in the rest of the gears, so its specifically when it was downshifting from 5th to 4th. I turned off Tow/haul mode and started breaking and it didn't replicate the issue when downshifting from 5th to 4th or any other gears. I also manually downshifted without tow/haul mode and it was fine as well.

It shifts normally going up and everything its just on the downshift from 5th to 4th in tow haul mode.

I am not really sure what it could be. I am thinking I will just have to not tow the trailer in tow/haul mode. At this point that's my only solution.

It relearned by itself. Thinking back maybe I didn't tow anything after I replaced the Lead Frame in the transmission, it just needed to relearn. Thanks for the help.
