HD Package- How much can I REALLY tow?

Hey guys....I found out today from the Ford dealer, after giving him my VIN #, that my Expy came with the HD tow package.

Now...it says that I can tow up to 8900lbs. Is that my magic number with my HD tow package or can I tow more since I do have the HD Tow package? I just want to be clear on that before I hook anything up to it that is too heavy.

Well, that's a tough question. It depends a lot on the situation.

Are you towing locally, through the mountains, or across the desert?
Do you have a weight distributing hitch?

Transmission and engine cooling are the main limitations, followed by braking.

8900 is max. Keep in mind the XP has to be pretty empty to do that so as not to go over max combined weight.
