Heater

So I had a new heater core put in a few weeks ago since it was leaking and not only did I have no heat but no matter if I had the heater on or off, there was the terrible smell of antifreeze permiating my truck! Now the smell is gone and I have heat coming from the front vents but the mid and rear vents just blow cool air. If you change the temp dial they blow really cold air if moved to cool but no heat when turned to hot, just cool. Did my mechanic miss hooking something up? I have let it go for a few weeks hoping that the system just needed to "fill up" with the coolant all the way. I know I am a woman so this is probably not the correct way to describe it and you are all probably laughing at my stupidity. I know it was a huge job as far as tearing apart the dash and it cost a pretty penny. I just don't want to have him tear into it again and be without a car for a few days is this is an easy fix. I have read about the door that opens and closes but I would think that if this in the problem, I would not have heat to the front vents either? Any help would be appreciated!

For one, I would call the guy who did the work and tell him what is up. Tell him you haven't had rear heat since he did the job.

I had to do my heater core twice in 6 months, my fault because I didn't do the job correectly the first time. But after removing the heater core I installed the first time I noticed there was some blockage in some of the tubes. So I cleared out the tubes and have not had any problems since.

What I think may be the case is that in the lines that run to the rear heater core, there may be some blockage. As long as you are not seeing any coolant under the vehicle or that your coolant level is getting any lower, then you do not have a leak, which is good. It just means that it is more likely that there is a blockage or he may have installed a stopper in the line (to prevent coolant from leaking all around his shop) and forgot to remove it when he was done with the job.
