heavy duty alternator?

i have a brand new red top optima battery and im running one 750 watt amp and one 1200 watt amp.. everytime i go to put the windows down or up i notice my headlights dim a lot.. i was wondering if a heavy duty alternator would help in the situation?

Hi. I'm having the same problem with mine. The stock alternator provides just enuf juice for stock gadgets (windows, heater,radio...) Additional gadgets(amps) take away this juice which ultimately dims lights,etc. Therefore, I'm going from my stock alternator. (115 amps) and putting in a 250 amp one. That's an additional 135 amps to truck! If you want to know how many watts that translates to, here is my calculation: 12 volts x 135= 1620watts. This should be enuf for my 1700 watt set up I'm planning for my truck. Don't forget to upgrade thicker wires from alternator to battery and to amps. Also ground cable needs to be thicker.
