Right now i need my 01 xlt (5.4l rwd) to sip gas like fine wine and not chug it like cheap beer, i know i know its a near 5000lb land yacht its not made for good...no reasonable...no sane mpg but here in the wonderful, awesome fantasically amazing state of callifornia gas is damn near 4 buck a gallon. 4!!! (State average 4.03, locally 3.99-4.00). Besides 3rd row, spare tire, tow package, tuner, is there anything i could do for more than 13mpg? I cant trade for a new 50+mpg camry(wouldn't mind it though, thing has 208hp), or swap a 3.5l eb in. Thank you.

Based upon the ultra-liberal, left-wing public policies enacted in California by the elected officials, I have no sympathy for any California residents. The people of California are getting what they voted for.

I just saw on tv Californica gas prices of $4.79. Everything more expensive there. I'm seeing around $2.49 to $2.89 along Eastern US. Lowest prices are southern West Virginia at $2.49. gas is a great bargain now and I'm gonna travel in my Expo while its affordable.

Buy a small 4 cylinder car.

If you spend the equivalent on modding your Expedition for gas mileage, you’ll get just a few extra mpg. The 4 cylinder will get 2 or 3 times the mpg that the Expedition gets.

I removed my tow hitch, around 60 pounds, removed 3rd row seat, about 40 pounds, and removed front tow hooks, another 15 pounds. Mine Is 2000 Eddie Bauer. Original weight was 5800 pounds, now 5690 or so. Mileage before diet, was 10 mpg, now 10 mpg. Do like the others said, save your money, and find a better gas mileage car. I too live in California, Daly City, gas price for 87 regular is $3.99 per gallon. At 13 mpg your doing better than me.

As a unemployed college student who cant afford 170 for books, i stuck in one hell of a pickle, i havent weighed my truck but im guessing 4900ish lbs, minus 3rd row, tow stuff, 2nd row and spare might drop it to 4750ish. What about gotts or airfilter?

Just thinking out loud here, but if you don't need a 2nd or 3rd row, don't do any towing, then why an Expedition?

Trade that sucker in, even swap for a used something-else. Even trade meaning $0 exchanged, but it'll likely have to be uneven trade, and clearly not in your favor for the other party to consider. In other words, I see a '97'ish Corolla, Focus, or Civic as an ideal candidate. With nearly 200K. A young couple with small children and another one on the way will be your ideal candidate.

If as a college student you bought the Expedition yourself, it was a terrible decision. If it was given to you, that person didn't consider the financial burden it would impose.

Otherwise, air up the tires to 40. Stay in the right lane and let others pass. Keep it under 55 on the highway. From a red light accelerate lightly, like a grandpa in a Prius. Plan your trips better to avoid unnecessary mileage. If you don't have money for books, don't ask about buying a tuner. Keep windows up and AC on. Get a stack of scooter rental codes.

In answering other questions you never even asked, I'd suggest taking a long hard look at the job market in your field of study and ask yourself, is there going to be a return on your educational investment? FWIW, I have multiple employees reporting to me, upto their eyeballs in tuition debt, working in a completely different field than they studied for. (and yes, they all know more than me, but the one thing they don't know is their monthly gross pay is about equal to my 401K contribution)

Ummm...why can't you vote? Your age is listed as '23'. Assuming you're a US citizen and you're 21 years old, you can vote in any election. All you need to do is register to vote.
One you're assuming im not a felon (who cant vote) which im not btw. Two i havent register yet, after 2016 there was no reason for me to register until next major election. Three you are getting off topic, which btw is what cheap mods i can do to better mpg

Gotts mod will help. But barely. Will probably be lost in the statistical noise.

A clogged cat isn’t helping. Replacement cost is a couple hundred dollars. Will probably take you 15-20,000 miles to recoupe the cost in improved mileage.

You want mods? Here. Sit in the driver seat and go vrooom vroom vroom. It shouldn’t use much gas then.

Or sell it and buy a Toyota
