I picked up a 2009 expedition EL XLT (192k miles). It shifts hard, engine shakes / misses as well. At times the the CE will flash and the wrench light will come on . During this time I have no power and barely get up a hill.

I connected my scanner to it and get P0204 and P0304. Another issue which I don’t believe is related , but I could be wrong is that my radio will stop working when I go from 2wd to 4x4 and the gauge lights will flicker .

I read things on possible throttle body being bad but I don’t want to just throw random parts at it .

It's an issue with cylinder number 4 ( passenger side rear cylinder ). Both the injector and ignition. First look for disconnected or damaged harness plugs on that cylinder. Use a bright flashlight, as it's hard to see back there. Do you know the last time the sparkplugs were changed ? Any sign of fluid from the heater hoses dripping down into that area ? You can try moving the coil from cylinder #4 to one of the other cylinders and see if the miss follows the coil ( or just install a new coil on #4 ...) . The injector issue is more likely just a poor connection of the harness plug.

Upon further inspection I was able to see that the injector #4 wire appeared to be chewed through . I’d like to remove this complete harness to inspect it for other damage . What’s easiest way to remove ?

It should be pretty straightforward to remove/loosen the harness by disconnecting each injector and COP connector. I think there will also be a couple of connections for the radio noise capacitors(?) and maybe the throttlebody connections. If you go to YouTube and check out FordTechmakuloco's channel, specifically the 4-part timing job videos, he talks about removing enough of the harness to make that job doable. I've had good success using the solder-filled butt-style heat-shrink connectors, like these: amazon link

Buy a new connector. Cut the wires before the damage area and splice in the new connector. (They come with the wires attached internally). I did that in my boat where the wires to a plug into the alternator went foooey. I use Liquid 'lectric tape (available at Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes) and smear it over the but splice. insulates, and waterproofs it.

Thank you all. I was able to fix the issue with a new connector. I think hopefully, I straightened out the transmission shifting. I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and reconnected. seems to shift better now...we shall see
