to make a long story short.... wife takes her 01 expy through a huge puddle yesterday after work. drove home fine with kinda rough idle she said. this morning wakes me... no start.. well I go out there starts fine but dies right after... runs same as always off idle... and now Im getting a gage sweep. no tc at all. all I can think of is bad iac but I hear the gage sweep is another issue all together... and didnt think an iac motor just goes bad overnight.... all I can say is there are no vac leaks... pcv valve and hoses and elbows new (by po)
any help would be great.... also heard I should take apart the main harness by the bat and make sure its dry... never seen a vehicle that hates water so much like these do....thanks

Just saw your post, sorry I didn't help yesterday. I've seen the gage sweep problem before and they always seem to fix it by replacing the battery. I think what happens there is this: the gauges work as long as voltage stays above a predetermined voltage like say 10.5 volts. When the battery capacity is low/old, then when you hit the starter the battery voltage suddenly drops to say 9 volts while cranking. A new battery might only drop to something like 11 volts while cranking. So once the battery voltage is too low, the gauges go berzerk.

I was going to suggest cleaning the MAF sensor too. Water may have splashed over the engine where the IAC sucks in it's air, but it also could be in your air filter. The result is going to be sticky wet dirt pulling through the filter and possibly caking itself all over the MAF sensor. That will cause all kinds of trouble very quickly.

I had a 350Z and it was parked next to my hangar where I work. We had a tornado that passed by closely, it destroyed 17 airplanes, 3 of them that were about 75 yards from my car. A huge tree that was nearby had been blown around a lot, and all the bark from it had plastered the side of my car. Not only that, but my car had moved 1/2 way over into the next parking spot. -So after all the chaos I finally left work a few hours late. I drove 1/2 way home before suddenly the car just basically quit running. I was accelerating onto the highway in the rain, in the dark, and it just quit. I pulled over, popped the hood, and found some more tree bark around the engine and jammed under the grill and base of the windshield. I restarted it, and it was fine until the next morning. Next morning it quit again. I ended up finding a tiny little piece of tree bark jammed into the MAF sensor. That was causing the computer to not sense any air flowing into the computer, therefore not providing enough fuel to match the air. The little piece of bark was moving around so that sometimes it would block the air.

hard to believe that how something so simple can be such a pain in the arse.
would still love to strangle the guy that designed the 5.4...... or maybe make the electronics somewhat waterproof.....
