How to change plugs 2000 expy

OK SO WE DID IT... MY BROTHER AND I TOOK (ALL DAY) YESTERDAY TO REPLACE THE PLUGS...
11AM...ORDERED THE PLUGS FROM ADVANCE AUTO PARTS AND PICKED EM UP... WENT TO SEARS AND GOT AN EXTENTION SET... THAT WAS THE ONLY THING NOT ON SALE BLACK FRIDAY!!!!
MY BRO AND I POPPED THE HOOD AND BEGAN THE JOB...
NOW I READ THAT YOU HAVE TO MOVE THE FUEL RAIL OUT OF THE WAY... WE STRAIGHT UP TOOK IT OFF THE INJECTORS AND MOVED IT OUT OF THE WAY TO MAKE IT EASIER TO GET TO THE COILS AND PLUGS...

GAPED THE NEW PLUGS AND STARTED REMOVING THE COILS AND OLD PLUGS... DID IT ONE BY ONE... THAT 4TH PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS THE WORST PITA!!!!

INSTALLED THE NEW PLUGS... PUT THE COILS BACK ON AND BOLTED THEM DOWN... TOOK THE INJECTORS OUT, CLEANED THEM, OILED THE GASKETS, AND PUT THEM BACK IN... PUT THE FUEL RAIL BACK ON AND BOLTED IT DOWN...PUT ALL THE TUBES AND HOSES BACK WHERE THEY BELONGED (WE MOVED SOME ME OUT THE WAY) OK... 2HRS TOTAL TIME LETS START IT UP... HESITANT START UP... IT IDLES FINE... OK COOL, LETS HOP IN... HIT THE GAS, MAJOR MISFIRE AND ALMOST DIES... HIT THE GAS AGAIN AND MAJOR MISFIRES AGAIN... HMMM WHAT HAPPENED...

WE POPPPED THE HOOD, CHECKED CONNECTIONS, MADE SURE THE FUEL RAIL WAS SITTING PROPERLY... THEN WE PULLED THE POWER TO THE COILS AND THEN INJECTORS TO SEE IF ONE OF THEM WERE NOT FIRING... THEY ALL FIRED PROPERLY... HIT THE GAS... STILL MISFIRE...

OK SO THEN I GOOGLED THE PLUGS I BOUGHT WHICH WERE MOTORCRAFT

FOUND OUT THAT ADVANCE AUTO COMPUTERS ARE OFTEN WRONG AND THESE ARE NOT THE PROPER PLUGS FOR MY EXPY... SO WE TOOK EVERYTHING APART AND REMOVED THE NEW MOTORCRAFT PLUGS...
I TOOK ONE OF THE OLD AUTOLITES THAT WAS ORIGINALLY IN THE TRUCK AND WENT BACK TO ADVANCE AND GOT A SET OF

GOT BACK HOME, GAPED THESE, MY BROTHER AND I EACK TOOK A SIDE AND PUT THESE IN. INSTALLED THE PLUGS, PUT THE COIL PACKS BACK, FUEL RAIL BACK ON, AND PUT EVERYTHING BACK THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE....
IT WAS A LOT EASIER THE 2ND TIME AFTER WE KNEW HOW TO DO IT LOL

THE TRUCK STILL DIDNT START RIGHT... SAME AS BEFORE. HIT THE GAS AND IT STILL SOUNDS LIKE A MISFIRE... TOOK IT AROUND THE BLOCK, HIT THE GAS, AND IT WAS REALLY BAD...
I HAD TO GET GAS, SO I STUTTERED TO THE STATION. DRIVING BACK FROM THE GAS STATION IT STARTED TO FEEL A LITTLE BETTER. THE MORE I DROVE IT THE BETTER IT FELT. IT STARTED TO GET THAT KICK BACK.
DROVE TO MY MECHANIC AND TOLD HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING...
1ST HE SCREAMED AT ME AND TOLD ME THAT YOU NEVER REMOVE THE FUEL RAIL FROM THE INJECTORS (MATT, I DO THIS ALL THE TIME!!! YOU NEVER REMOVE THE FUEL RAIL!!!) HE TOOK A LOOK AT WHAT I DID AND COULDNT FIND A PROBLEM. TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK MONDAY AND HE'D RETRACE MY STEPS AND FIX WHAT WAS WRONG...
KEPT DRIVING THE TRUCK AND THE MORE I DROVE IT THE BETTER IT PREFORMED... AFTER ABOUT A HALF HR, IT FELT AS IT DID WHEN BEFORE I STARTED THE JOB...
THE SUN WAS SETTING ABOUT 5PM... DONE FOR THE DAY. HOPED ON THE PARKWAY TO GO HOME AND IT PREFORMED FINE. NO ISSUES AT ALL, I HIT THE GAS AND IT WENT. DID A LITTLE SIDE STREET DRIVING AND IT SEEMS TO BE FINE.
DONT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, BUT THE EXPY IS GOOD TO GO. IM GOING TO DO SOME DRIVING TODAY SO WE WILL SEE WHATS UP IF ANYTHING.

ON ANOTHER NOTE, WE PULLED WHAT SEEMS TO BE 2 ORIGINAL MOTORCRAFT PLUGS FROM THE ENGINE WHILE THE REST OF THEM WERE AUTOLITES... THEY CAME FROM THE 2 SPOTS IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE, THE HARDEST 2 PLUGS TO REMOVE... GUESS THE LAST GUY DIDNT CARE... HERE IS A PIC OF ONE...

Update:
My expy runs fine! No problems, no check engine light, nothing... Still have no idea why it ran like shit the 1st time we started it after changing the plugs.
But yea, took it for a nice drive on the parkway and its all good!

Yea if you unplugged the battery for more then 10 minutes it has to relearn its adaptive strategy. It just takes time to re-learn! Scares the crap out of you when its re-learning though. I've done it on two 5.4's and one 4.6 and how you did it was exactly what i did.

really? This is the case? Im glad to see it happened to someone else aside from me lol yea, i was shook, thought i broke something or put the hoses back in the wrong spots... But i never unplugged the battery... Was i supposed to? Lol

Great thread for anyone looking at a DIY plug job. Accurate info on this subject is hard to come by. (Ex: fuel rails)
And those two plugs in the back on the passenger side? You need to be a focused, double jointed spider monkey with a ton of patience and impulse control.

Not a bad job, passenger back was a pain, and also drivers second from rear. Didnt have to remove anything to do the job except the plate that mounts the power steering fluid resevoir, just needed a good flashlight, one of the coil retainer screws was a little tricky under the fuel rail, but with a u joint no problem. took me at least 2 hours
