How to program a fixed code in the Universal Door opener (on visor)

I just realized I posted the below in a 4th generation forum (DOH). It belongs here

I have a vintage (1980's) Craftsman fixed code garage door opener that still works like a charm. I've decided to try and program my 2012 Expedition to open it. The manual has two sets of instructions - one for rolling codes (modern openers) and a different set of instructions for the fixed code operators (like mine). They have you manually key in each dipswitch setting going from 1 to 9 (+ is left button, neutral is middle button, and - is right button). I've tried it and it doesn't work. Note that my remote has 9 dipswitches, and the opener only 8 dipswitches (the start at switch 2). I've tried both ways with no luck.

Anyone had success with my vintage Expedition on the fixed code openers?

You should have the buttons on the sunvisor or overhead console. Just programed ‘07 for gate and garage door just using the existing remotes and home link buttons

Yes, I have the buttons on the sunvisor. Yes, I have programmed rolling code openers successfully using the remotes. That DOES NOT apply to fixed code devices, however.

oops! Didn't realize this was an older thread. Oh well.

I, too, am having an issue programming the visor-mounted “Home Link” remote in a ’23 Limited Max with a vintage Craftsman garage door opener. The newer instructions don’t mention dip switches, but a sequence of pressing buttons with the remote in proximity. An email to Home Link customer service has gone unanswered. YouTube videos gave great explanations, but didn’t solve the problem. Not the end of the world, just frustrating.

Is it basically the same steps as rolling code, but you stop after you’ve programmed the homelink and don’t need to cover the “learn” steps on the opener side?

I can’t say for sure this is how it works on the Expedition, but in the past this worked for me.
