The 2018 Platinum at the top of our interest does not appear to have the inflatable seat belts.

Is it a big deal to not have them?

Is it a big deal to have them?

Any opinions out there?

We will never have car seats - our two boys are teenagers - if that is part of the equation....

They're a safety feature like anything else safety related. Nice to have them should you ever need them but plenty of people make off the asphalt battlefield alive without them. If I would have had the option to add them when I ordered my truck, they would be in there but I didn't and I'm not loosing any sleep over it.

When we were spec'ing out an F150 I was surprised the MSRP on these was only like $200. I believe I read somewhere or my salesperson told me it was easy to defeat these incase you were temporarily installing a kid seat. I didn't care for the way the shoulder belt looked or felt, little bulky and distressed looking, didn't look or feel right, so was easy for me to not check that box. Very cool concept though.

When I first read the thread title I thought of something along the lines of life vests. Then I thought "what the hell, they're trying to keep an Expy afloat in a lake, river or canal now"? So I had to look them up to see if it is a joke.

Nope, it is an option. I really wonder about the need for them though. Don't drive like an idiot but look out for the idiots in front of you.

I can see a kid chewing on the seat belt, it goes off and jacks the snot out of his face and jaw.

Meh, I’m neutral on them. If you were ever potentially going to have kids or pre-teens in the car, I’d highly advise not getting them as the majority of car seats and boosters are not approved to use them. There are a few that can, but you have more flexibility without them.

Since you said you won’t ever have car seat age kids in the car, then having them is cool and a safety benefit for the teens, but not a big deal to skip.

My wife's 2018 Explorer Platinum has them. They seem like a standard option on that vehicle, because both our last two Explorers have had them. They are not bulky by any means, but obviously thicker that the standard seatbelt harness. I like them and wish my Expedition had them. Since I did no order mine, I get what it get.

They are optional. We didn't want them because they wouldn't work with our daughters carseat. The Britax clicktight system has the belt pass through the seat and get clamped down.

The Britax Frontier and Pinnacle combination harness to booster seats with ClickTight are compatible with the inflatable belts, but the ClickTight convertibles Marathon/Boulevard/Advocate are not.

When did they start adding inflatable seat belts in the second row? I have a Platinum (Ford says their a standard option) but I don't have them. My F150 does have them.
